"MSDE installer encountered an error"

Ok,

Since I last ran my Encore Pro software, I have replaced the HD in my laptop. I am trying to install Encore Pro version 1.8. and get that error. I searched and checked all 5 pages. Print and file sharing are on, I have admin rights, .NET installed. ect

Machine is a Dell inspiron 9300, XP SP3, 2gig ect. This machine has run the software before I swapped the HD, but now these issues. I can install the Encore portion, and the reader and drivers, and tried to download MSDE 2000 sp4 from MS but no go.

I also tried to install in safe mode


Derek or anyone else have ideas?

Everything you need is on the Encore Pro 1.8 program, You have to remove all traces of Encore Pro and the server. A clean install (Reformat ) works best, also Crappy SP3 may cause trouble, I don't let my computers talk to billy after I do SP2. Jim

After you get all of Encore Pro and the server removed you maty need a program like Tuneup Utilities to clean out the trashed reg files.

You might also want to go up to the Search function and put in "MSDE" and look through about five pages of results.

Did that

OK,, I got SQL installed , Encore pro opens and tries to connect, says it can't connect to server, so I tried to copy and paste but no go. I guess I need to review and try to find next fix.

Yep. That one's been reported before........problem is, I can't remember what the solution is.

Ummmm......is the "Service Manager" started? (a little icon in the right-hand part of the task bar) Is the arrow green or red? It may need to be directed to the correct SQL database.

You don't say when this error occurs.

Check to be sure you are set up to accept cookies - could it be from respironics.com? Not sure. But something is blocking the installer, not accepting cookies or firewall?

MSDE is Microsoft's Desktop Engine for SQL, I'd go to Microsoft.com, search for MSDE and download the latest version for your Operating System and reinstall it right over the old.

Make sure the Desktop engine is started (Right click, select Start on the task bar). Also make sure the service is set up to run under Adminstrator rights.

Usually you can reinstall Encore over the old install and it will fix it, when that gets run it automatically backs up the database. Be sure to reboot if you uninstall and reinstall.

Got it,, Encore Pro doesn't like SP3 for xp

Just reinstalled SP3 everything still working.

When installing, I chose custom option of install (not typical). In the following screens, it asks for SA password. Don't leave it blank. Supply a strong password. per microsoft MSDE 2000 SP4 does require a strong password for the installtion. Once I did that the SQL server was installed and I was able to bring up encore pro.

However I am having problem reading the smart card. It says "Can't connect to the device".

Any clues.

Smart card reader as in the Mako DT3500 Infineer card reader used with smart cards on machines pre PR System One?
Sometimes Pro has to have the driver software updated. Have you tried updating the DT3500 driver software?

PR System One machines use only the SD card and there is no need for the DT3500.
