Received my first machine yesterday.

I was sent to my sleep study back in May and was diagnosed with OSA then. I have an AHI of 8.9, which I understand is considered on the mild side. I don't have a sleep doctor and was only sent to get the sleep study when I told my regular doctor that I think I have sleep apnea and wants to get a sleep study done. With that specific request, he got me scheduled and I was on my way soon after that.

I spoke to him after getting my results and he advised me to go to the internet and research the different cpap machines and told me that my insurance company will only cover portions of my cpap equipment for rentals the first 13 months before I get to keep my own. That's to acertain that I will be using it, etc.

After weighting costs, etc. I decided to get a used one from cpapauction and tried it out. I've been using it just over a week now. Operation and setting has been easy. I did my research and decided to go with a nasal pillow model (mirage swift LT). The cpap is a Fisher & Paykel HC22X with a heated humidifier. I am enjoying my therapy and am adjusting to it quite well without much trouble with leaks, etc.

The whole thing works well when I sleep on my back, but occasionally, I turn over to sleep on my side and unless I do it carefully, it pushes the nasal pillows aside so it leaks air on the side. I also have long straight hair and the strap on the back of my head tends to slide up and threatens to come loose.

My question is ... how long did it get you guys to feel well rested? It's been a little over a week now, I'm still pretty tired during the day even though I'm getting a full night's sleep. I haven't gotten that "wow, I feel great and well rested" feeling like I did the morning after my sleep study.

Regardless, I was so excited after the change and that knowing that the restfulness is possible that I went to work and told everybody who'll listen to go get their sleep study done. My brother just had his last week and his doctor told him that his AHI is 56 and is considered well beyond severe. He's looking forward to receiving his machine too.

Good luck to you. I think there is some very good info out there for you to read. I am 69 years young. I have to make fun out of the full face mask that I have. The reason I have the full face mask is because I breath thru my mouth too, when I am sleeping. I was told that if I had chosen the half mask, it could cause gas due to breathing from your mouth also.
It is now 3 weeks,,,,,since I have been on it. I sleep through the night... I have also been sleeping longer, and not even waking up for bathroom breaks. I did this only once.

OH! I have been told by a few people that this is not terminal..... and if I lost weight,,,,, that sleep apnea would go away,,,,,,due to fat cells,,, being around the lungs,,,,,,,
