Swallowing air

Post by Concord » Sat Aug 16, 2008 5:31 pm

I've had a ResMed BiPap w/Humidifier for 2+ yr; began awakening early a.m. w/belly full of air, tummy
ache, socially unacceptable most of day. Off to Sleep Lab: Pressure from 10/4 to 6/4. Also had ill-
fitting mask(s). Have new mask, fits well most nights Feel like shape changer! Sleep tech/Resp.Tech says
that I continue to swallow air is not uncommon & I will gradually adapt. I'm ready to give it up. It's been
4 weeks. I cannot stand the bloating and the "gas". Any suggestions? I'm thinking terrible anantomical
changes, like lung tumors. Not very peaceful altho my name indicates I should be/Concord.

Don't give up . Lowering the pressure should help you from what I have read. . There is a ton of info on the board concerning this: aeropohagia. Do a search and start reading. The things that have helped me the most have been raising the head of my bed, drinking a bit of fizzy something in the morning. For me the aerophagia interacts with GERD so I'm pretty careful about what I eat and when as well.

Hang in there, Concord.
