Like what's with the broken orange thing with an arrow - next to the subject on the main page? Probably unread threads?
Or the Circle avatar - there's the red one, and the black one, and ones with a star next to it?? What does it all mean?
Try holding your mouse pointer over them and see if a description shows up.

Den, as usual, saves the day. OK, it works

I still think a legend would be helpful

wow, lotta things to comment on.

- I have often hit that message that you can't post again so soon. Annoying!!!!
- I usually use preview before posting so I don't need to see the page yet again after I've submitted so I vote to be brought to the main page
- I like the list the way it is. I don't want any categorizing or stuff like that.
- what's a yahoo bot?
- Hope Chris feels better soon. He's been doing a great job.
- Johnny, your messages made me chuckle. You're doing a great job too.

Can't remember anything else that was asked/discussed for now. I'm at work so doing this while multitasking so I'll check again later at home.

I was going to respond to some of these points separately, but France said exactly what I think, so I'm quoting her!

I agree with all of the above...including, "What's a yahoo bot?"

EDIT: Oh, and I see there's a "delete" button now for posts, and the "spam" button was moved to the right---I like this! Thank you!

I often visit another site that just upgraded without these issues - and I am not putting anybody down - http://forums.mozillazine.org/. I really appreciate what you guys are doing and understand the work you're putting in. I don't care if this gets fixed for the next several days or a month, but it does affect users.

This is the way my screen looks, too, because i have the resolution set on 800 x 600. I can just see things so much better with that resolution. But at the same time, it doesn't really bother me that much to have the left and right sides cropped a little bit. (And you're right, the "Bigger/Smaller Font" options only change the font size, they don't do anything about the cropping issue on the sides.) It doesn't affect the actual posts for me, and when I need to log in, I just scroll over to get to the "log in." Might even be able to avoid that, if I chose to automatically log in each time I visit.

I also agree that you guys are doing a TERRIFIC job.

Pam

Why do some topics have the scrolling icon and some show the avatars?
Short Answer: If you post your avatar, that shows. If not, the default scrolling icons show.

Long Answer: All you VFW guys please bear with me - here goes some mushy reasoning. CPAPtalk is a warm place in a sea of cold websites. The secret sauce is all of you. People put themselves out there with threads like "2 Days Into CPAP and Struggling", which is hard to do in front of a bunch of strangers, and we come back with our stories, our advice, our support. A few years ago people started posting their real pictures (or real baby pictures) to CPAPtalk as their avatar. I thought this was an awesome development. I think it is critical that newbies see as many smiling faces of successful CPAP users as possible.

Cut to the redesign - we thought it was important that we have big bold titles right on the main page. However, all of those red and blue circles weren't getting it done. CPAPtalk was cold. We wanted to tell people about CPAPtalk very quickly, and we didn't have space for 1000 words, so we put your pictures up there.

The good with this approach is that everyone who comes to CPAPtalk can now "get it" quickly. The bad is that sometimes you get the standard icons and sometimes you get faces. Its not very consistent design.

I pushed for us to launch it this way and see how people reacted before making further mods. We are seriously considering printing blank when no avatar is listed, showing avatars when they are available and using the "take me to the newest post in a thread I haven't read" little box to the left of the title for people who want to see everything they've not read.
I like the idea of the poster's avatar being used here, but, to me, it doesn't look good mixed in with the "red circle thingies,"---as you said, not consistent. Since the avatars are square, maybe the other icons could be square, too, a little box like you suggest, that's either blank or has something in the box that would be the same for each one that doesn't have an avatar. Make sense?

Oh, and I never really understood why forums have some type of notation (bomb, scrolling thing) to indicate a "hot" topic. If it has a bunch of pages listed, or 1,000 posts it's obvious it's a hot topic! LOL

So, I guess I'm alone in missing the Red FAQ icon?

There were so many helpful threads bookmarked there. Now there is no place for us - THE MEMBERS - to post links to helpful threads for other USERS.

There's just this "Collective Wisdom" section with no way to append. It's great stuff, but it stopped being added to in 2005 or so.

I'm starting a petition:

BRING BACK THE RED FAQ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks much!
Barbara/Babette

Like my wife says, I can never find anything!

How do you tell which topics have new posts in them since the last visit?

There's a little square orange and black image between the avatar and the title of the thread. When you read the post, it goes away and when there are new posts, it comes back. At least that's the way it seems to be.

You can add articles to the Our (collective) wisdom. Just click add article but yeah then you have to cut and paste the text from the thread in there.

I miss the FAQ too. Where did it gooooooo???

Hobbs - the broken orange with the arrow thing icon next to the subject line (does it have a name??) seems to indicate that there's been a new post on that topic : Image

Whenever you come across a round toit, can you eliminate some of the extra white space between the bottom of the post and the border. Also, add my vote to moving the equipment to the left pane.
