So far so good

Post by Volcanomom » Tue Aug 12, 2008 8:29 am

Last night was night 4 on the hose. I kept the mask on from 10:30 until 7:00 this morning with a brief potty interruption. It's going much better than I expected to be honest. At this point, my main problem is WORRYING about leaks. I will shift in my sleep and feel the exhale air, and think I'm leaking, so I sort of wake up, check my nasal pillow then go back to sleep. Only once or twice has it been the case where there actually was a problem.

The other ironic thing is - back sleeping is best for my carpal tunnel, but bad for the apnea, but as hub said "Would you rather be able to type, or able to breathe?"

He said I'm not snoring at all (although I did take the mask of yesterday at about 5 am, and he said suddenly I was making up for lost time/decibels). He's not having any problems getting used to me having the CPAP, although the other night when it was "pre-heating" the humidifier, he though the toilet was running & went and jiggled the handle

S0.....so far so good. I'm hoping that things really are as good as they seem and it's not that I'm just too uneducated to know what all is actually wrong!

Congratulations on four good nights! Hopefully it will be the start of a long and beneficial experiance for you. In time your subconcious mind should adapt and the noise of the exhale air will no longer wake you. At least that was the case with me. Is there any chance of you upgrading to at least an Elite so you can actually check your nightly leak rate, as well as other data? But if you are sleeping long enough and keeping the mask on all night and feel good the next day then things are likely going well, so keep up the good work!

Congratulations! You are doing really, really, well. Only four nights and you are keeping it on most of the night!

Support from you hubby is a wonderful thing.

I used to wake up every few hours in the beginning and check my mask for leaks. Now, I almost never wake up. It gets better and better. Keep at it.

Congratulations! I am jealous, but hopefully I will soon achieve what you have ... several hours of sleep with cpap each night. Keep on keepin' on!

Thanks all! I tend to have a "full speed ahead attitude". It took me years to work up to getting diagnosed, and I've been gaining weight steadily for several years. BUT once I decided to do something I had a sleep study within a week, and joined Curves and I go every day instead of 3 times a week. I tend to jump into things with both feet once I make my decision. I don't know if that has made using the cpap psychologically easier or not but I'm not complaining!

However - I am VERY sugestive? Sugestible? I'd never heard of areophagia until yesterday and I woke up today all gassy!
