Looks like a replacement to the Reslink module? if so sure is smaller, I assume it plugs into the back of the AutoSet Spirit II? if so that would be pretty cool as long as it isn't $1200 plus like the old module.
That new machine has some nice features.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...
As I remember it, the ApneaLink is not a whole lot more than an overnight oximetry. You get a chest band so it must measure respiratory effort, the finger sensor so it is an oximeter for 02 levels & pulse. It records thru the night. You return it the next day for the results to be downloaded.
I brought one home from the hospital for my husband for an overnighter but he refused to wear it 'cause even if he has OSA he is NOT going to wear something on his face all night. *sigh*
Our local hospital was offering them free as a screening device when they reopened their sleep lab after a remodeling.
Oh, yeah. If you click on the Clinician's link:
Ha! The oximeter used is the XPod also used w/the S8 ResLink! And the finger sensor. Nonin XPod 3012.

Hmmmm. I don't remember the nose canula and I don't see the chest band in the illustration.Auto-generates a simple, easy-to-interpret report with a color-keyed Risk Indicator, pulse and oximetry signals, detailed SpO2 information and waveform data.

In the illustration there's the chest band. And an illustration of the downloaded printout. Interesting, it says it can be used w/or w/o oximetry. I wonder if this is a second generation from what they sent me home with for my husband?Automatically analyzes and derives AHI, AI and HI, flow limitation and snoring
Can be used to identify intra-hospital preoperative patients at risk for SDB, thereby improving overall quality of care

Would love to find someone who does use the home study, because it is here, why not and I would like to be at the front end when it catches on.
Re: A home sleep apnea Resmed ApneaLink device
There are two versions: ApneaLink which monitors respiration and optionally blood oxygen saturation and ApneaLink Plus which adds respiratory effort (via the belt) to the mix.
Devices like the ApneaLink Plus now meet Medicare guidelines for diagnosing OSA. Medicare will pay for an xPAP without a sleep study. I presume that an APAP would be prescribed since without a study there is no titration pressure.
I was screened using an ApneaLink (no pulse oximeter) before entering into a research study. They did not want to do an initial sleep study unless they were pretty sure the subjects had OSA. It's interesting that when the patient (or insurance) is not paying (because it was a study) a screening was done to minimize costs, but when the patient is paying the full sleep study is the first step.

That is because it is no biggie if they miss a bunch of apneans during the screening for a research trial. BUT when a patient is displaying symptoms and NEEDs to be Dx'd and NEEDS to be on CPAP they DON'T want to miss them. They want to get them Dx'd and on therapy and preserving their health.

Well, that puts a more positive spin on things.
But I believe that these take-home devices have proven very capable of detecting OSA. So I am skeptical.

I am using the Apnealink home screener for our sleep lab. We do not use the O2 sensor or effort belts. We are using the nasal flow only and have had great results with it! It has saved a few people from a full sleep study and has also showed some not so willing people that they may want to really pursue this! We love it!! We actually give it out for free as a community service.
