How to change settings on Respironics BiPap Auto M Series
My husband was diagnosed in 2004 w/ severe OSA and some centrals.... after many masks, he's on his 2nd machine a Respironics BiP.Aut.M; he's supposed to be up to 20/14, but is slowly trying to get up there, as the pressure is too much. He's at 12/8 and wants to go to 14/10; this is a new machine and I had previously learned how to adjust his prior Bipap. The tech said it was the same, but it's not. We live too far to drive into the hospital once a month or more, to have them change the pressure (and my husband is at the point that he hates me to even mention this issue!). Help!! He has been so tired and can sleep anytime -- for so long-- the machine helps but he needs to get up to the right pressure.
Here is a link to the "M" series set up manual.

It is for the regular cpap but getting in to the clinical part should be the same just a few different settings. You might write down the setting you have as you go through so you can go back to them if you need to. If this does not do it for you, let me know I think I have the BiPap manual but you will have to PM me your e-mail so I can send it to you in Adobe PDF format.

Changing the setting: it worked!!
Thank you so much! The only difference I found was that on the prior machine, you had to hold down the 2 buttons, unplug it, keep holding them down and plug it back in --- this one, you unplug first (without holding down the buttons), then hold down the buttons and plug in. It worked well...
I also heard a tip to try to increase the ramp time in order to get up to the higher pressues, so I did that as well (to 30 minutes).
Thank you so much, again!!

However......in all fairness, the original post also says this:Try reading the first post, genius.
Now......if he's got Centrals, I would think that kind of pressure could be problematic.longsufferingwife wrote:.....he's supposed to be up to 20/14, but is slowly trying to get up there, as the pressure is too much.
Is anybody monitoring his results with software? He supposedly has a data-capable M Series Bi-PAP Auto.
I would strongly suggest to the original poster that they purchase the software and reader and see what's happening.

What kind of mask does your husband have? Is there also a chance that he's using a nasal mask and is losing air out his mouth when he sleeps......mouth-leaking?longsufferingwife wrote:My husband was diagnosed in 2004 w/ severe OSA and some centrals.... after many masks, he's on his 2nd machine a Respironics BiP.Aut.M; he's supposed to be up to 20/14, but is slowly trying to get up there, as the pressure is too much. Maybe they're like MANY, MANY others who find the support forums on the Internet......their "medical professionals" have not given them the quality of help they really need. It was also why I suggested getting the software and card reader. If you don't take interest in your own health, nobody else is going to......but they WILL take your money.Anonymous wrote:and I would highly suggest to the original poster that they contact their doctor and not a bunch of strangers on the internet who HAVE NO IDEA about the health condition of the patient in question here and who are encouraging someone to fool with something they may not fully understand.
She also said the following and there's also the part about the tech saying it's the same procedure to adjust it as with the previous machine.
