Nausea from CPAP?

Post by brandy » Tue Jun 21, 2005 10:56 am

I've been on CPAP for about 3 weeks now. Prior to starting CPAP, I had a very strong stomach. I have not been nauseated or experienced vomiting in about 8 years (except for once when I had food poisoning). Since starting CPAP 3 weeks ago, I have experienced nausea and vomiting on 3 separate days (I normally don't get sick until the afternoon or evening). The days when I have been sick, I have also experienced painful pressure in my sinuses (cheeks, forehead, ears). I use a heated humidifier (set at 4 out of 5), my pressure is 10. I have tried 2 separate masks. My current mask, the Activa, seems to be working fine. Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

Brandy,
This seem to me like something you should ask the doctor about ASAP.

nausea

Post by phantom » Tue Jun 21, 2005 12:02 pm

hi

I have had nausea and vomitting too

you will find over time it will get better, if you are prone to it it may not go away completely. I usually am affected about once or twice a month now and is usually brought on by having eaten some spicy food followed by being overtired. I am fine if 1 of these happen but not together. hope that helps:)

You might try turning down your humidifier. I found that early on when I had it up too high, the moisture was upsetting my stomach. I have adjust and have mine up at 4 or 5 now. I take meds which give me dry mouth, plus I am a mouth breather.

I actually have more problems if I turn the humidifier down. I tend to get very bad sinus headaches if the humidifier is at any less than a 4. I go to the doctor in a couple weeks, so I guess I will ask him at that time (unless it gets too bad before then).
