Post by stormeclipse04 » Thu Jul 31, 2008 9:14 am

does anybody else suffer from bad aftertaste, ever since I had my cpap I notice a horrible taste in my mouth, I do not use a full face mask so that not my problem could my humidifier be the problem or do I have some sort of nasal problem that I need to tell my doctor about? the taste I will describe as a bitter taste, I also had the taste in the sleep center on thier machines as well using full face, nasal pillows, and nose masks

Could it be that you are mouth breathing or mouth leaking? The air rushing thru your mouth could be the problem. Does your mouth or throat feel dry?

no I don't think I'm suffering from mouth leakage, I use a chinstrap so that pretty much keeps me from breathing through my mouth, as far my mouth goes it stay wet pretty much thru the night just that horrible taste gets in my mouth and it last pretty much all day, the bad taste seems to be localized to the back of my tongue and throat

You might try using a tongue scraper...works for me. I never had that problem until cpap and it really seems to help.

I noticed a strong salty taste my 1st few weeks. So much so that I thought my gums were bleeding or something. I found out that can be a symptom of a dry mouth which of course can happen with CPAP. I don't notice it much any more.

hi all just a update I went to the doctor today and explained my unpleasant taste, he seemed puzzled cause he hadn't heard of the condition to often so he had me undergo a nasal scoping procedure after about 15 minutes of unpleasant pushing of the scope through my nostrils he diagnosed me with narrow nasal passages and bad nasal obstruction he suggested I see a ent and they would probably recommend surgery to drill a hole through my nasal bone to open up my nostrils in the meantime he recommended to cut back my cpap therapy to only when I take a nap since I have issues with the taste
