My review of the Swift LT

Post by Leatherneck » Wed Jul 30, 2008 6:53 pm

I wanted to wait until I had a full week into the LT before I gave my observations. It is the 4th mask I have tried in my short month as a CPAP user. Thus far I have tried:

Flexi-fit
Comfort Classic
Swift II
Swift LT

All of them were actually comfortable, but I seem to prefer the nasal pillows because they leave no marks and I can scratch my darn face when it itches easier! The Flexi made me break out on the forehead and I now think it is because the silicone type material does not breathe and I react to it. The comfort classic did the same though i fixed it with a soft piece of cotton t-shirt. The Swift II is an awesome mask, but I tend to "bury" my face into the pillow so it's not perfect for me.

Now the LT. It is amazingly small, unsophisticated and light. The head gear is a marvel and is so easy to put on and take off. No industrial velcro requiring vise grips to manipulate! It is a real gem for side sleepers that do well with nasal pillow masks.

The seal is great, but I did notice that if you try to pull the hose up and over and in the middle of your head like the pictures show it sort of pulls the pillows up & hampers the seal. Easy fix is to let it hang like I did the other 3 masks. Since it swivels 360 it presents no problem for me.

I am thrilled with the LT overall and its simplicity, lack of weight & great design make it worth every penny.

Have you adjusted the angle of the pillows? The joint where the blue frame and the seating for the pillows meet, you can adjust....I have mine angled slightly differently on each side....and have been getting zero leaks some nights. I side sleep 80% with occasional stomach sleep.....and rarely back sleep unless my sides need a break. (It come at the cost of certain apnea...)

Also, I swivel the hose upward and into the clip *before* I get set up/adjusted. If I don't, I roll on the hose, and dislodge the pillows downward....

Just a few ideas that are currently working for me.

Glad you are moving forward in successful treatment!

Yep, been playing with the angles and driving my wife nuts! "Would you quit fidgeting!" O.K. honey I'll just take it off and you can go back to ear plugs.

I am able to keep a great seal with the mask very loose feeling which I really like. The times i tried to put the hose up into the clip i found I had to tighten her down a bit more to keep the seal. All is well and i think I got it down.

I love the looseness...and "nary" a line on my face in the morning!

I also am very impressed by the LT (there was a nice thread with people praising the LT a few weeks back). Like you, I do not clip the hose up top as it affects the seal (yes, I have fiddled and fiddled and fiddled..). Thought the Swift II might be a nice backup for me (or perhaps I'd like it even more) but find that I don't like the extra weight sitting on my lip. More important, the pillows seem a tad harsh relative to the Swift LT, a little rough around the edges, a tad stiffer. The great news is that overall, so many people either benefit from the LT or II. I rank the Optilife #3 re pillow systems but admit I have only in addition used the Comfortlite II (and have ruled out the Breeze....don't particularly care for the overhead hang). The opus looks like it might be interesting....and someday my name will come up on Bab's list for the Nasal Aire.

Cheers,

Richard
