Nasal Aire II
I have been reading posts about the Nasal Aire II and some of you don't use the head band.
I thought how could they do that They must have ears like Dumbo.
Two nights ago as I was going to bed, I decided to try it without the head band. WOW (Yes I do have ears like dumbo, but I don't think it makes a difference, now.
Could not tell the difference Stays right in place with just the band behind the head, and the little bolo tie. Both nights I slept 8 plus hours with it on/in. Of course this is not unusual for me when I wear it.
As I have said before, it is my number one mask. I got it first, and every mask I purchase is compared to it, as I like it best. So far there are none that I can sleep all night with except for this one.
Being that I have a total of Five masks, you can tell I have been trying.
It might just be the fit, but it works for me.
I also, besides having large ears, have a good size nose
But.........I must have small nares. I use the small nose piece on the Nasal Aire II.
I have the Breeze, and use small pillows on it, and on the Swift, use the medium insert. On the Comfort Curve, I use the Large nose piece. So those of you who are confused about sizing, I am just letting you know, I am as confused as anyone about it also.
Good Luck to you all........and have a good NIGHT!

No I have tried it YET!.
I'm sure along the way, my search will find it. I have been at this for 9 months, and have accumulated 5 masks as it is. I think my next is the Acitva. Will keep you all posted.
Chuck.......I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Hi MartiniLover,
I use the NAII without the headband (tried it 1 or 2 nights and ditched it) and I also do not use the bolo -- just the back of the neck strap. I cover my small hoses with a knitted, tubular cotton bandage material -- sold by the foot at medical supply stores -- to make it feel less plasticy (if that is a word). I like the minimal feel of the NAII this way.
I do NOT have Dumbo ears!
Keep us posted on what your mask search turns up!

Infinity
I have the Infinity. The Nasalaire is my favorite and I hate anything on my head so the Infinity was an obvious choice. I hate it. The concept is great and it fits fine but when you attach the hose the weight of the hose pulls it out of the nose. It does not matter where you put the hose, up, down, under my pillow. I spend most of the evening putting it back in my nose. There is no way that much testing was done on this other then just putting it on and laying down. They could not have attached the hose to it and not noticed a major problem with it
Nasal Aire users
My rt said to just use saline nose spray instead of the ky jelly because its less messy. My nose did feel it my first morning after .... anybody use ky and like it?
Is it normal to still snore while using Nasal Aire prongs or do you think I have the wrong size?
The notes I wrote when rt brought my equipment yesterday say to wash the Nasal Aire once a week. The brochure that came w/them said after every use....what do you do?
She said to wash the humidifier daily. To wash the filter and hose and NA interface once a week. Is that what you do? Terry

Re: Nasal Aire users
Yes. I used KY for the Breeze nasal pillows, on where the pillows touched th edge of my nostrile. Pillows are not prongs, but I wonder if your RT ever used nasal pillows, or prongs. The jelly (KY) or gel (AYR) creates a lubricating, protective layer between your sensitive skin and the masks material. I used (and use) saline spray - I can't imagine how it would have that protective effect. I also have the impression the KY improves the seal. I would have tried AYR as well, but it unobtainable here in Israel.Flower51 Terry wrote:My rt said to just use saline nose spray instead of the ky jelly because its less messy. 1. You will know if you have the wrong size. Either it will leak badly if too small, or hurt like hell if too large. I used a little oral gel, (tooth stuff) on my nose for the first week or so and some KY warming gel. Now I can't tell it's there usually.
2. Once a day...............ROFL. I was one of those who did it once a week for the first month, and now its when I get around to it.
3. I use distilled water, and only clean it probably every month or so, when I am going somewhere so I empty the unit and refill when I get there. That is about a close as I get to it. I only use a passover humidifier not a heated one. That could make a difference?

You were right about the ill fitting interface. I went back to the NasalAire video on cpap.com. The prongs are sposed to form a seal when in your nose and fit snugly. Mine (a small) moved from side to side and up and down and was so loud it sounded like a mini Niagra Falls. Before I watched the video I thought it was just how it is and I needed to learn to tolerate it. I even tightened the straps last night, which stopped the prongs from moving around, BUT made the noise even louder and the air more uncomfortable. I couldn't stand it!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!!!!!!
So...today I called out the RT and she brought out a Medium and Large. The medium was better than the small and a little more comfortable than the large, but did not make a seal and was not snug.
The large seemed the better choice. WHAT A DIFF...SO QUIET...its like a whisper! My dh will be so happy tonight! NOW I'm hoping its the right size and not too big. MY RT's company, with who I set up the insurance, don't carry the medium large size or any inbetween size. I'll see how tonight goes before I worry about that though. I'll use a good coating of ky jelly on my nose (or is it better to put it on the prongs themselves?)
Thanks for your good input. Terry
