Oh Sap,

Thank you so much for clarifying that. It is a nice mental image to have while I am going through this thread looking for healthy delicious foods.

Appreciatively,

rofl, I hadn't quite made *that* mental leap... snot is exclusively regarded as originating from the nose around here.

I think I may need to change the tilte of this thread as it went way off course and crashed into a xxx theater.

Sorry DS...

You know all conversations with me eventually end in the gutter.

Okay, so I crashed and burned today and stopped at Jack in the Box for breakfast and had the #20 Gut Buster with extra Mayo.

I sure hope those Zone books get here fast. I'm trying to eat everything in the fridge to clean it out so I can re-stock it with "good food."

Oh yeah! DS, what brand of plastic containers are you using? You said something about good plastic containers earlier.

Cheers,
Babs

No kidding... I re-started reading this thread after a small hiatus, and I could not (and still not) make sense of the white whatever... swoooosh that's the sound of the thread flying by my head

Needsdecaf: I have irritable bowels of sorts, not really IBS but then I haven't gone to a doctor for it... anyhoo, the point is that for some people CARBS make the IBS worse... especially Gluten. But maybe you know all that already.

Echo,
Have you been tested for gluten intolerance? You should - and if you have anemia, you should ASAP. Turns out the a relatively large number menstruating women whose anemia was blamed on menstruation, are actually gluten intolerant.

Gluten, by the way is there in some of the complex carbs (full wheat), and not in the refined ones (potatoes...).

O.

I've been known to be anemic at times! (but according to latest doc the latest blood tests show everything ok).

As for the gluten intolerance... welll my story's a bit long there. Do you have some time?

So how do they test for gluten intolerance? 20 years ago when I had all these tests, they came up with nothing, but I know a lot has changed since then. My biggest complaints were migraine, stuffy nose, and muscle aches. The stomach complaints came in second. Eliminating sugar and milk seems to help with that.

Ask them to test you for Celiac Disease (Gluten intolerance).

There's also a related problem for women... My coworker has it, and I someone on this forum mentioned it. Dang it... something ovarian... anyway, it's symptoms are similar to Celiac Disease, as well as Menopause, so it gets mis-diagnosed frequently. She got diagnosed when she had trouble conceiving. She's on mass amounts of hormones now.

She has the opposite problem of most women - she only gets healthy when she's pregnant. Her non-pregnant state is her unhealthy state.

So, of course, she wants to have lots of babies.

I'm finding more and more people in my circle diagnosed with Celiac Disease. It's come to the point where we ALL just NATURALLY bring gluten free goodies to any get-together now.

Good luck!!!!!

ahhh you mean Celiac disease. Yeah I know about. Worth a shot. I try to avoid gluten anyway (but fail miserably). I'm trying to go low-carb now.

I think what you're thinking of Babs is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. I was reading up on that the other day because someone else on the forum mentioned (can't remember who the angel was, though). That's why I wanted to ask my doc at the visit (today) for the hormone tests, but she said they were all OK (turns out they DIDN"T test those hormones, just the thyroid ones)!! Someone else suggested to ask the OB/GYN.

Blahhhhh I now have to make an appointment for:
- ENT - to get my sinuses checked out
- Nutritionist - to get my diet under control
- Gastro - to get my 5 yearly endoscopy and check for GERD
- OB/GYN - hormones / POS

OK folks, what else am I missing here ??? I must say I am totally fed up with docs. (I was REALLY fed up before to begin with...)

My BF and I agreed that I have to get healhty before making babies... I might have to tell him that making babies will MAKE me HEALTHY! !!

have I now officially hijacked this and three other threads with MY own problems??? sowwwwwyyyyy

I think there alot of lab value "normals" that aren't really normal any more.
I've been tested for celiac and it showed normal, but I know I have a problem with it. I know others who also don't qualify as having celiac disease, but definitely do better without gluten........so there may be different levels of it.
I get so frustrated with doctors who assume we're A-okay, just because our lab values are normal.
One example is with blood sugar and fibromyalgia. I can't remember the doctor's name, but he discovered that some of the people with fibromyalgia had symptoms of hypoglycemia, even when their blood sugars were still in the normal range.
My neurologist was bright enough to know that you can have a normal Ferritin level, yet still have neurological problems from the ferritin not being high enough.
I also think some of us have symptoms of hypothyroid and poor adrenal function, even though all the conventional lab tests come up normal.
I think it really holds true for gluten intolerance too.

That's it Echo! P.O.S. I really want to be diagnosed with that. I knew my body was a POS a long time ago..

Normal ranges for what? A chicken? A mouse? A MAN?

Don't get me started on "NORMAL".

Cheers,
B.

hahahah I was thinking the same thing after I wrote "POS" ... i feel the same way about my body sometimes too. But I love it, all of its rolls too

Yeah, normal is completely subjective I agree. It's just based on what "most" people are.. and who know who those people really are anyway!

Just shows that we should listen to our own bodies, and I've known that for a long time. I guess where I get discouraged is when people (read: family, friends, bosses!) don't take us seriously if we don't have a "stamp" from the doctor. I'm just glad I got my OSA "stamp" .... it's making discussions a LOT easier at work now. Last job I nearly got fired... in this job it's "what can we do to make it work for you." I'm sorry, I'm not gloating Babs... I'm just happy that I FINALLY found people who will be supportive. I've been there done that too! It's not nice. I hope you get a better boss.
