squeaking with mask swivels problem.

Post by eric.scheidt1 » Mon Jul 14, 2008 9:53 am

Has anyone had a problem with the swivel on the HC431 of HC432 mask squeaking? Every time the swivel moves, it makes a loud "squeak" type noise.
Maybe has anyone had a problem with swivels squeaking on any masks?
Solutions, anyone?

Just like metal-on-metal, plastic-on-plastic can become rough and start squeaking every now and then and some sort of lubrication may be required. It could be a simple matter of washing your components well and re-assembling them. Sometimes this works for me. I'm not sure what kind of grease you would use (petroleum jelly is a bad idea from what's been talked about in a previous thread) but maybe one of these "all natural" products could do it. I don't know.

Try a little olive oil. I drizzle some in from the end of a toothpick. Hate those squeaks.

Or if you can take it apart, wrap some plumbers' teflon tape around the threads That works on the Quattro.

quattro squeaks

Post by deglorious » Mon Jul 14, 2008 4:28 pm

Yes, like Mindy, my Quattro would leak and squeak and I solved the problem by using teflon tape. Worked great!

Good luck,

My 432 began squeaking and it drove me nuts. When the mask was replaced all was quiet until the first time I washed the frame. They must manufacture it with a water soluble lubricant which washed away when I washed the frame. I used a q-tip along with a glob of astroglide. After working it in, the squeak was gone. It has been about two weeks and all is still squeak free. There are no odors either.

I used some store brand cooking spray (Pam type stuff) followed by hot water in a swivel. Not sure which solved it but squeak disappeared. The olive oil suggestion was close to my solution.

I've used olive oil, too, with good results which lasted about 6 wks or so.

Tape Works Great!

My Ultra Mirage Full Face clacks more than squeaks. Pipe tape on both gaskets has considerably reduced the noise. Thanks to whomever came up with this very useful tip.

I suppose shame on me cause I rubbed both halves with a wisker's worth of medicinal salve then vigorisly wiped it off. Hasn't squeaked since after several washings, etc.

I don't think a rub of salve on the hard plastic shell is harmful, unlike getting it on the silicone.
