The heat thing is like the mask thing - YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY.
I've met more people who don't notice the heat thing, than people who said that the foam was too hot for them.
I think NOT TELLING PEOPLE that the foam is hot has a large part in people NOT THINKING THEY ARE HOT. But not all.
I also suspect some people sleep MUCH HOTTER than others, and probably manage to heat up the foam to a greater degree.
Bottom line - if you buy a topper and can't stand it, you can always re-sell it on Craigslist.org. Ditto a mattress, or a pillow. There's always someone willing to buy it used if it's cheap.

Are the foam mattresses hot?
I agree with chipbutty, there is more mattress in contact with the body so in that respect it feels warmer. I also feel the foam is a bit warmer. I have a TempurPedic and have used it for 6 years. It has developed more softness in the center and has more firm edges that are in less contact with body weight. The softer it gets, the warmer I believe it becomes.
My husband likes a slightly warm bed and says it is just right.

Foam mattresses
Thankyou everybody from Goodnight Hoser. I shall check out the epinion.com thing. You're right I should probably try a topper before investing in the whole bed thing. I did notice when I tried one out in the store that when I went to roll over I just kind of stuck there (kind of like when I was 9 months pregnant!). But I try not to toss and turn too much now that I'm a hoser so maybe that's a good thing. I've got a 2nd sleep study this Tuesday. I'll pay more attention to the mattress this time... Thanks again for all the advice!!! Jo

I, personally...am a fan of Beautyrest mattresses, owned 2 in the last
12 yrs, and both have been exceptional (lost my first one to a hurricane). On another note, my father is a veteran CPAPer, nearly 20 yrs under his belt, and LOVES his Sleep Number bed!
