Night #2

I hope that other new xpap users will find this encouraging. I suppose those who have had their machine for awhile and are struggling to with them could be frustrated that I have not had any of their problems and feel that I don't have anything to offer. But for those of you who have just been diagnosed and are waiting to get your machine I want to offer the hope that you may be one of the few who do not have problems and get immediate results from their xpap machine.

Last night was my second night on the machine. I fell asleep within 15 minutes of putting on my mask and slept 7.2 hours without any interruptions. When I woke up before my alarm I thought for sure I must not have slept long enough. I played with my mask and tossed for around 15 minutes before I finally decided to get out of bed. Once I got up and started moving I felt really good. I spent the extra hour getting things done that I haven't had time, nor energy, to do in a long time (I think my wife will appreciate that I got the garbage together without even being asked!) When I got to work coworkers were asking me why I was so chipper this morning.

Reading the post on this bb gave me some great information to help me prepare for purchasing my machine. I had a good understanding about SA, different machines and masks, and what questions to ask before going to my DME. I even learned how to properly test a mask before purchasing it (take your pillow, lay on the couch or floor with the mask on, and move to the positions that you normally sleep in. If you have problems with the mask you are testing, try another. If your DME balks, find another DME!) But I also came away expecting that there would be a long and arduous trial of getting myself used to sleeping with the mask before I would experience any relief from the exhaustion that I was feeling.

In two nights I have not experience any problems and am feeling more alive than I have in years!

If you are new to all of this, I encourage you to learn all you can (this is a great place, with many great people who are willing to share their experience.) But also know that EVERYONE'S experience is different. Many people experience problems, some do not. Understand that this therapy will help if you follow it. Be ready to take your personal journey through xpap and deal with whatever comes your way. Someone on this site suggested that success depends on your attitude. Isn't that true of everything in life?!

I will lie down and sleep in peace Ps 4:8
