First Dream since i cant remember

Post by Ado » Wed Jul 02, 2008 9:33 pm

Hi all,

well finally, i have had my first dream after at least three years or more. does this mean i am finally getting deep sleep?

also, i devised a styrofoam container to dampen the noise of the CPAP machine - works a treat. its well ventilated and so far no dramas.

so things are a little better than a few nights ago

Way to go, ADO.

It means your therapy is keeping you from obstructing during REM (that's the Rapid Eye Movement stage of sleep). Most people with obstructive sleep apnea get bumped out of dreaming by the obstructions, since that's when our muscles are at their most relaxed.

Your therapy is working - and its good to hear the Styrofoam helped with the noise problem.

Congratulations.
O.

I know what you mean about dreams. I have been having more dreams since starting on my CPAP. Some of them have been pretty vivid.

Ditto.. I was amused when I discovered I could dream again. At first it was fun and some really weird stuff right out of the 60's floated by. Then it was faster and I'd wake breathing like being chased. Now it's often plain exhausting - too much of a good thing.

My best sleep now comes when I take an Advil PM with my 5mg Sonota at bedtime. Don't dream as much or at leat not remember it.

I, too, sometimes kind of long for the good old days of not dreaming. Man, all this dreaming can wear a person out! I know I need the sleep stage that brings the dreams, but I could do without some of them since I most definitely do NOT feel rested when I wake up from them! Do the dreams get more "normal" when you start to catch up on your sleep debt? Are they more bizarre when you first get back into the sleep stages that allow dreaming? Is this part of what they call REM rebound? (I know, I know. I should just Google that and find out myself about the REM rebound, so you don't have to answer that one, but I would appreciate hearing if the extreme bizarreness of dreams when you're just getting into them again is temporary or something I'd just better get used to.)

Thanks!

Peggy

P.S. But congratulations, Ado, on getting things figured out to the point you could comfortably settle into that dreaming stage again! I know it's been a battle! And, P.P.S., please let us know when the new little one arrives!

I alway had some dreams before getting a machine but it was always really weird stuff. Now with my Apap I discovered I could dream nice stuff again.
