Old Lincoln- Are you still using the PPI? If not , how long did you take it to get relief? As far as diet, I cannot think of one thing that triggers my GERD. I am beginning to think it is caused by EVERYTHING I eat and the CPAP too. I think I will go back to my APAP for awhile even though I don't feel very rested when using it. My fixed pressure is 12 but I blow up like a balloon on that. I've tried APAP with a range of 8-12 and felt very tired. Don't know what the answer is anymore. Feel a little discouraged about that.

I do still take Prevacid and probably always will. The good thing about it, at least for me and others I know, is that it works with the very first pill when taken before breakfast. I was down to eating a plain baked potato and still got GERD. Took the pill and no GERD since.

If Prevacid or other PPI isn't enough to stop the GERD, then get help. My son toughed it out until he got Barrett's Esophagus and now years later has gone through 2 stomach wrap surgeries and takes some very powerful PPI's. His doctor told me it's equivalent to 8 standard Prevacid pills. So be warned that if you ignore it or tough it out, it will hurt you. Oh, and if simply not eating within 4 hours of reclining does the trick then do it.

Think of your APAP settings like you are getting closer to solving a mystery. I'm not the expert on settings, but I can tell you my unit doesn't go to the high (12) if it doesn't think it needs to. Most nights are 10-11 and the average is 7 - 7.5. My thinking is to gradually increase the high until the events drop (or increase) and you feel better. If the range is more than 6 points, I'd next bring the low up gradually to within 6 or you hit the bloat threshold. Even if more than 6 points, for me it's better to trust the machine to prevent/clear events than to have the bloat.

But like I said I am not the expert on pressure so value other opinions above mine.
