The sweet spot

Post by texan27028 » Wed Jun 15, 2005 8:22 am

Well, I think I finally found the sweet spot after being on CPAP for about 1 1/2 months. I've worked to get the room temperature just right, the humidifier setting just right, the nasal mask tension just right, and the bed covers just right. After experimenting with all of that for the past month, I was finally able to get couple nights of rested sleep. It was great!!!

Then last night my son adjusted the thermostat after I went to bed and threw off the CPAP ecosystem. Last night I tossed and turned with one nostril closed and the other opened, then the one that was clear closed on me and the other one opened up. A very interesting night. A couple of times my mask leaked under my eyes and it sounded like a bee buzzing around, so I woke up swatting at imaginary insects until I realized what it was.

But at least I know that I can get a good nights sleep with a big piece of plastic stuck to my face. I just have to lay down the law with the thermostat, and buy my kids some extra blankets.

It can be done!! Life after CPAP does exist!!

What a funny description!
Ecosystem. Ha!! I liked that.

Sounds like you're on your way! How wonderful.
Loved the bee description.
I sometimes get a noise that sounds a bit like a flute.

Glad to hear there is life after cpap for you.
Let us know how it goes, and if you're feeling any better.
We'd love to know!

..... cpap ecosystem ...... ha!

ROTFL!! I like your phrase..."CPAP ecosystem". You coined a good one, texan! Right up there with unclebob's "the Wizard of Wind" to refer sarcastically to some less than helpful, egotistical docs.

"CPAP Ecosystem" definitely needs to go into the permanent XPAPers' lexicon.

I think your ecosystem would be a lot more tolerant of thermostat fiddling if you got The Heated Hose though.

Yeah, if there's one thing that I've learned from everyone at this site (which is great, by the way) is a heated hose and different masks are definitely in my future.

Unfortunately, growing up in Houston (I'm now living in NC), and being my father's son, I'm like Mr. Freeze -- I need the AC cranked up (I usually have the ceiling fans going in the winter). When the house isn't cool, I don't sleep well, and having a plastic mask stuck to my face just makes things worse. I've been playing thermostat war games since I got married 17 years ago, and I don't see an end to them anytime soon.

Know exactly what you mean about the thermostat war games. My late hubby and I had opposite metabolisms. He would freeze in the early AM and crank up the heat. I'd go outside or open a window!. In the evening I would freeze, so he'd go outside for some cooler (often below zero) air!

Fortunately we lived in a drafty old farmhouse with no central heating (and no thermostat). So if he wanted the house warmer, he'd have to go split some more wood or throw another shovel of coal in the stove! For that matter, we could just go to a different room for a different climate!

Man.. We'd have had to rewire the house if I had needed this machine in that place. We only had a total of five outlets in the whole house! <LOL>
