CO2 Monitor

Post by ahujudybear » Mon Jun 13, 2005 7:44 pm

Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee is currently installing a Carbon dioxide monitor as an adjunct to their adult sleep lab Dr. Woodson said that, in part, thanks to my perseverance in this matter , they will now be one of the few adult sleep labs in the country to have the capability to continuously monitor CO2 levels while a patient sleeps, and most likely to gauge whether their xPAP settings are properly treating excessive CO2 levels. He said that most childrens' sleep labs have this ability, but very few adult labs do.

He still does not have and cannot locate the results from my ABG test last Monday, but he said once he has that data, he and the Pulmonary Sleep Lab director will decide on what the next step will be. He said that once the new machine is up and running, they'll need to test it. I immediately volunteered!

CO2 retention

Post by barbyann » Mon Jun 13, 2005 8:13 pm

Last night I woke up in the middle of the night and my lips were numb and tingling. I have had this happen before but never thought about it much till now. Now, as an educated OSA woman, I realize it might be a sign of increasing CO2 levels in my body. What do you think?

Elevated CO2 levels cause restless sleep (your body moves to get you to breathe more deeply), headaches, and eventually suffocation.

Maybe you have your mask on too tight?

Hi JB,

I think that the pencil comment was from Titrator's Ghost during the chat on Sunday (or was it Monday?).
Sleep well,

Nyah... The're probably no good anyhow. I'm sure the one they took before I went to sleep was lower than the one they took later.. <LOL>

They said they'd call if/when they found them.... nothing yet. they said to call Friday if I hadn't heard from them before that.

<sigh>

Wonder when the new machuine will be ready for testing? Also wonder how accurate it is? Someone said that they take an ABG sample at the beginning of the test and another at the end, I suppose to compare data and verify accuracy?

I'll let everyone know as I learn more about it.
