Yes bap 40, I just want readers, especially those new to this issue, to be aware of and successfully manage the various risks OSA confronts them with.

DME Daddy: I appreciate your concerns, but...

I believe this thread expresses my feelings:

There are ways to study records without identifying patients. Hospital records are audited, for example, for billing accuracy. I seriously doubt if HIPAA regulations would be violated by such a study, if properly designed and approved.

The point of such an examination would be merely to show the incidence and prevalence of aspiration of vomitus. This would have to be done in view of the condition of the patient aspirating the material.

I hope this helps. I am more than willing to see some hard evidence. Image

I agree wholeheartedly! We keep hearing from RTs and DMEs about the risks of aspiration and aspiration pneumonia and yet I just ran a fast check of the literature and there is absolutely *no* reference to aspiration pneumonia in adults with sleep apnea with or without cpap that is due to cpap or cpap-related causes. That said, there are references to aspiration with GERD and many pediatric references to aspiration pneumonia.

I'd surely like to hear these folks give us some specific references.

What I found certainly wouldn't lead me to abandon caution by any means. I don't use taping when I'm sick, I only use taping that I can (and do) remove in literally 1-2 seconds and I try to be very cautious about seriously recommending it to anyone.

So what are the dangers of vomiting during sleep while wearing a full face mask or a chin strap?
