I have heard that for many years that everyone doesn't need as much as 8 hours sleep. Then u hear a doctor say 8 hours is a must! Who to believe. I always seemed to feel better when I slept 5 hours than if I slept 8. I was always so sleepy the next day if I got 8 hours. Go figure...Thanks for your post...Emily

The 60 minutes episode induced sleep deprivation in an otherwise healthy (and young) individual by using sounds to arouse him anytime he reached stage 3 or 4 sleep. We experience the same arousals through repeated, frequent OSA events. I found the information on the effects of sleep deprivation ranging from appetite increase and weight gain, to cardio-pulmonary effects relevant, regardless of whether the slep deprivation was clinically induced or a consequence of lifestyle, illness or apnea. I would have liked to have seen the apnea connection made, but the show actually focused on sleep deprivation as a consequence of lifestyle, and that is what I saw as its short-coming.
