humidity tank cracking
humidity tank cracking
[My humidity tanks on my Resporonics Remstar crack and leak. I have to replace about every 2 months. I have replaced about 7 tanks so far and I have had no help from Respronics in solving the problem. What is wrong? Can someone help or advise similar problems?][/list]
The cure is to not take the tank apart, use distilled water and it will stay clean, if not vinagar and water will clean it without taking it apart. Jim
What breaks most of them is when you put the bottom on you get it cocked, and it cracks from the excessive pressure. If you don't take it apart, no stress on it or on you.

I have only ever taken apart my tank on a few occasions. That was BEFORE I read in this forum about all the problems. Now, I let it air dry every couple of days and do a vinegar rinse once a week or week anh half, without taking it apart!
I'm afraid to risk the chance of having problems down the line.
Seven tanks seems to be a lot. How are you cleaning it?

Crack Humidity Tanks
The cracks usually are in the corners but this last time they are in the center of the short ends. I do not remover my tank from the holder and I use distilled water and they still crack. Respronics provide no help on this matter at all and told me that I am the only one with the craqcking problem. I find that hard to believe so I posted this memo top see if others have the same issue.
Monte,
I just want to verify that what you are looking at are NOT the fine lines on the outside of the tank which are left over from the molding process of manufacturing. I have seen those mold marks and I have had a tank leak, but the leak was because of my faulty re-assembly. The tank has been fine for 28 months now. Just double checking.

Humidity Tank Cracking
Terry B,
I have been advised of the mold parting line by Respronics and was aware as I am a tooling engineer for 37 years. Thanks for sharing though!! I sure do not understand why the cracking. Is temperature of the heater a factor? I do put Vicks Vapo Steam in my tank once in a while for sinus relief. Not sure about effects from that but my health care supplier did not think that would hurt.

I have went to the F & P 100 heated humidifier and haven't looked back!!
Do yourself a favor and get either a F & P 100 or F & P 150 heated humidifier. I have both and use the 100 regularly.
I don't think I would put the Vicks in the humidifier as you are breathing it directly into your lungs. I would check my doctor about this.

Re: Humidity Tank Cracking
In that case your health care provider is a fool. You can end up a lot worse than the tank cracking. Not wise at all, but after all it's not the health care providers lungs, or billfold. JimMonte wrote:Terry B,

I’m not an engineer of any sort but I know a few, and they would never even mix different brands of oil or grease because of compatibility issues; something about soap types or such. And likewise, I’ve learned enough through the years to suspect that adding an oil based product to a plastic container just might lead to the breakdown of the plastic through the leaching of the plasticizers into the fluid medium.
Have you ever noticed the warnings in the instruction manual that specifically state to use only distilled water? I wonder if you ever get that “new car” smell. Carcinogens might be released once you mix the oil based Vick’s, water, and heat and you are sucking them right down the old pipes. I hope that cracks are all that you develop. I am not a chemist, oncologist, or biologist so I can only speculate, and I am sure you will do as you please, but it probably is the Vick’s causing the cracking since no one else seems to have that problem.
