I will offer one more vote for the fact that there is some association between CPAP therapy and regularity. Here goes.
BEFORE CPAP: I was "Mister Regular" - every morning within half an hour of getting up, I would have my primary bowel movement for the day. Every day, right after shaving and before showering.
WITH CPAP: The ability to go right after getting up is gone, at least in my two weeks on CPAP. Getting good sleep (with some minor bloating), but my GI tract does not wake up until later in the day.
My theory is this: My body used to be more awake that it should be at night (with the apneas), so my bodily processes (digestion, kidney functions, etc.) would all make progress during the night. Now that I am really sleeping deeply, I am actually slowing down these functions to a crawl when I sleep. The loss of my old regularity means having to change my routines, but I am not experiencing constipation (the discomfort associated with lack of movement.)
In support of this theory, I will note as well that I have stopped getting up in the middle of the night to urinate, which is something I used to regularly do once a night.

Re: change in bowel habits since using cpap
I wonder what effect the flood of cortisol (and other chemicals associated with untreated apnea)
might have on bowel movements.
might have on bowel movements.
