Medic Alert and Sleep Apnea

Post by freepostg » Tue Jun 03, 2008 8:16 pm

Any thoughts on the necessity to wear a medic alert bracelet denoting sleep apnea. I ride a motorcycle and have always wondered whether, in the case of an accident, emergency personnel should be aware of this condition? Any thoughts?..thanks in advance.

The American Slaeep Apnea Association casts $25 a year to join. Part of the benefit is they send you an medic alert bracelet or necklace..that was my first clue that maybe this was a condition to be taken seriously. Not that not breathing isn't serious..... .. check it out http://www.sleepapnea.org

Don't bother the spell check doesn't work, close enough for hand garnades. Jim

My Medic Alert tag includes "Sleep Apnea, uses CPAP" and the information available to medicals care providers includes my prescribed pressure.

Bearded_One, when you say you have your prescribed pressures listed, is that directly on the bracelet or do you carry separate information always, like medications, condition, CPAP pressures, that medical staff would find if you were to arrive in their hands? Does anyone do this? Is there a recommended way to have this information displayed so staff would know it was important immediately?

If it's on the bracelet, did you get yours other than through sleepapnea.org?

Thanks!

Peggy
