Breeze Vs Headrest
Breeze Vs Headrest
Hello all..First time user of this forum. I need some advice.
I am trying to use a nasal pillow. I haven't had much success using my CPAP because of mask comfort. I know it is a matter of preference, but I'll ask the question anyway - What is the better nasal pillow, the Breeze or the Headrest? Comfort and seal of course is on the top of my list, but also exhale pressure. I notice some masks are harder to exhale through even with EPR on. Any users of these masks that have compared them?
Joe
P.S. Any remarks on the ComfortLite 2?? I read that the direct seal were really very good?

I found the breeze to be very uncomfortable. Didn't even make it 1 hr with it. The hard metal headgear part was just not made for my head.
I do use the CL2, original CL and the headrest. The original comfortlite works great for me and the headgear is very light(great for those hot summer nights). The CL2 has a slightly more bulky headgear but works just as well for me. The headrest(I did not modify mine) works just as well and has the added bonus of venting straight up towards the headboard.
I do find the headrest to be a bit louder than either of the CL masks. All 3 make it possible to sleep in any position comfortably.

Headrest wins, hands down, no contest. Breeze is JUNK compared to Headrest.
However....
I prefer the Nasal Aire II over both of them. And I've tried both of them. And the Hybrid, and the CL2, and the OptiLife, and....

Breeze vs Headrest
The Breeze was the first mask I actually achieved real sleep with. My biggest issue with it was the hard back headpiece. When I rolled on my back to turn over it dislodged the nasal pillows. To get it angled right in my nose the hard blue plastic nosepiece sat on my upper lip. Even so, I would be able to sleep with it if I needed to without a major issue.
The CL2 was another decent one for me. Adding a PadACheek on the forehead piece really helped stabilize it. I bent the metal on the nosepiece too much and it kept popping out, and it too rested on my upper lip. Still, was able to use it.
I like the Headrest best due to no swivels and the vent goes upward. The headgear was way too hot for me for summer cause it was rubber against my head, but the nosepiece works for me because there is nothing hard to sit on my lip.
My nose does not upturn at all, so that's why I have had some issues I did. A person with a "normal" nose would probably not have those particular issues. I did find that my leaks were less when I went to a size larger pillows than I was ever recommended. With all of them, adding an extra strap increased stability. I ended up deconstructing each one of them, but I maybe will do it differently next time around. I may not strip them down as far. With my Headrest, it changed the alignment and its almost weightless and barely touching the face feature is altered.
Facial structures are so different, one (wo)man's treasure is another's displeasure.
Hope you find your treasure.

I like and have successfully used the Breeze for two years now. It rarely leaks for me, and I am a side sleeper who sleeps on both sides, changing off during the night. The back piece is rigid (but lightly padded) plastic. I do not find it uncomfortable, I just don't notice it. I do use a pillow, so if you sleep without a pillow, you will likely feel the pad/piece. There are a variety of adjustments that can be made on the Breeze to fit it to the individual, but as kteague says, faces differ, and what works for one is anathema to another.
If you chose to use the Breeze, be sure you get all three sizes of pillows (cpap.com sells it with all three, or just one size, for different prices). You may find a larger pillow size will cure any leak problems you might have. In addition to the three standard sizes, Puritan Bennett also makes an extra small and an extra large size.
Here is WillSucceed's tip sheet on Breeze fitting:

Good luck in your quest!

Getting old doesn't make you 'forgetful'. Having too damn many things to remember makes you 'forgetful'.
I have tried both. The Headrest is my favorite by far. I have used this mask exclusively for almost 3 years. It fits comfortably (without the pantyhose rebuild!) and I have very little comfort problem when sleeping in any position. I also like that the straps are designed to leave almost no marks on my face the next day.
I found the Breeze to be less sturdy and more apt to slide around on my face. I had leaking problems. Overall, I found the breeze to be an inferior product.

I have used both. Like Kathy, the Breeze was the first mask I could sleep with.
I alternated them for about 2 years. After I deconstructed my Headrest I never returned to the Breeze.

WOW! Great info. Thanks to all! I will probably go with the headrest to start. I know they have it in stock so it will be easy to obtain. I do have a bigger problem though... I will list this in a separate post so it will not get lost. It will have "NOT BREATHING"" in the subject line. Look for it and tell me what you think. Thanks again.
