Okay, I have had it. I have been using the Quattro FF mask since it came out. The leaks are out of control. The mask slides up on my face and I wake up and it is not covering my mouth. It does not matter how I adjust the headgear either. Also, it is too wide at the bridge of my nose, so if I open my eyes air blows into my eyes. I am soooooooo done with this mask.
My question is, if I have a Resmed machine can I try a Respironics mask. I was think about trying the new Comfort Gel FF mask that is available on 5/20/08.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I see some comments where people have experiences high leak rates with the COmfort Gel Nasal Mask.
How do you know what your leak rates are supposed to be if you are using a mask that is different from you machine?
Please let me know as I would like to order a new one on Monday.
I have a Resmed Machine...Do I have to use a Resmed mask??
No, you can use most other brands of masks. Although I have not used the new comfort gel full face mask, based on the nasal comfort gel mask, it will be a very heavy mask and hard to use except sleeping on your back.
I personally think you have a pretty good mask. If you set the knob to apply pressure to your forehead and get the mask to clear your nose bridge and tighten the upper straps a little, it seems unlikely the mask would slip up unless it is too large. A good size piece of MACKS silicone rolled about an inch square and either applied to your nose bridge or the corresponding part of the mask will stop all leakage into your eyes. The ResMed Quattro is a fairly lightweight mask in comparison to the Respironics and I would work with it a little before giving it up.
The ResMed Ultra Mirage Full Face is also a very good mask IF you can get the right size as it comes in six sizes. I would never have guessed it, but the DME had to exchange the medium they said was the right size for a small that fits much better and seals well.

You can use other than a Resmed mask w/the Resmeds. If you do use an other than Resmed mask your mask setting should be set to Standard.
In the Standard setting your Resmed automatically subtracts .4 L/s or 24 L/M from the reported leak rate. You then have to look in your other than Resmed mask's literature for what the allowed vent or exhaust rate for your set pressure is to figure the actual leak rate keeping in mind the already subtracted .4 L/s or 24 L/M.
