waking up

Post by Mark_Ferman » Mon May 12, 2008 10:09 am

I have what I think is a simple question.
When I go to sleep at night, I put my machine on (not auto ramp) and I can feel if I have any leaks (I have a non-ventelating mask). When I am comfortable I hit the ramp button, because at 15 it is just a little too high for me to take straight - you know the wind tunnel thing. However when I wake up in the morning sometimes I just lay there for a few minutes and I find that 15 is very easy for me to handle. Is it just my body getting used to it all night, or is it something else?

Probably just that the body gets used to it during the night. Many others have reported the same thing...that a pressure that seems like "a LOT" when they first use their machine each night, seems like nothing by morning. Some even have to put their hand up to feel air coming out of the exhaust to be sure the machine is even blowing.

Sounds like you have a good routine going, Mark, and are taking to your therapy very well.

You're getting used to it.

I gave up on ramp VERY QUICKLY. I really hate it now, because I don't get ENOUGH air.

Pretty soon, you'll get so used to it, you'll wake up and have to touch your face to be sure you're wearing your mask at all.

Cheers,
Babette

I start my ramp at 10 and it goes to 15. I have done the straight to 15 and stayed there, but in all honesty at 15 my exhaust valve is noisy and that is the biggest reason for dropping to 10 to ramp (lets my wife and I fall asleep).

I have been on cpap for over a year and it is working great. My wife was once asked (before therapy) "How much longer does the doctors say he has to live?" Now I am not grey and falling asleep when people talk to me. It is wonderful.

You people are the biggest reason for my success.

I went to my DME to get a new Bipap since I thought it was broken. I swore I had no airflow coming out until I hit the "ON" button several times.

I was just used to the Bipap
