And I think to myself...... What a Wonderful World
My opinion:
While its always nice to see more options made available, based upon past experience with their masks, I won't be the first sucker to waste my money on that one especially with their new pricing policy,
From what I can tell, it looks like a Comfort2 with a new cushion. Since the Comfort2 I own and don't use wasn't all that great maybe they think this will help boost sagging sales or compensate for crappy design.
But just like the Comfort2, this new mask still has the cheap ball and socket quick release headgear clips that have been subject to so much breakage in the past where used.
And it looks to have the same elbow and exhaust system the Comfort2 has, inherently noisy compared to other masks I've used.
Then Respironics doesn't learn very well from its design flaws and mistakes, their motto seems to be..so we piss a few patients off in the first few weeks of mask ownership they will buy another, they have no choice, but look at all the suckers we can capture in the mean time.
I also have a ComfortGel nasal mask in my dud drawer, the UltraMirageII is better sealing, better headgear, better quick release clips, the Soyala even better than both combined.
But I've seen not a single thing better about the ComfortGel technology over those others as far as sealing ability goes, the CG doesn't seal any better and you don't have to boil those others or use as much strap pressure to make the same seal.
I'm also not swayed with their "Most popular mask" claims either, they are most popular because they are cheap (and cheaply made) and they give thousands upon thousands of them away to sleep labs to push them down on the patient. For a PSG that mask you use is included in your price for the PSG so the cheaper the mask they use the greater their margin is. Being they are free/cheap, DME's make good margins on them sometimes getting cases of them free with machine purchases, since they are made in china you know they don't cost them hardly anything to have them made.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...
I can't see you using that mask, you would be either staring at the swivel elbow from the inside or the air would be hitting you dead center in the eye all night longgasp wrote:I'll bet that's one HEAVY mask : )
I tried my Comfort Gel nasal mask a couple weeks ago and after using the Vista for so long and found it felt very heavy. I intend to boil it for a custom fit just to have another mask available.

Now, if this had ONLY been a full face Activa that came to market!!!

I agree. Just this afternoon when I got home I noticed it on the top of my cabinet and tossed it in with my other 'duds'.Snoredog wrote:I can't see you using that mask, you would be either staring at the swivel elbow from the inside or the air would be hitting you dead center in the eye all night longgasp wrote:I'll bet that's one HEAVY mask : )

Since losing a bit of weight, the Vista is leaking like a sieve. I either need to gain weight to get some padding on my nose again, or get another mask. I'm opting for another mask. I'm thinking of giving the ComfortLite 2 a try. I only sleep on my sides and I'm hoping this will stay put.
Any thoughts?
yep that Vista was a leaker, that hard plastic headgear cut into my ear lobe, even tried taking a hair dryer to it to reshape it.gasp wrote:I agree. LOL!jasper wrote:That evil ball and socket strap attachment on the CF2 is enough to make me never use that mask again. It's evil, evil evil...
And that goes for any other mask that uses that design.
Ok, now that I've caught my breath from laughing so hard, what ball and socket strap attachment are you talking about. Are you referring to the swivel thing on top of the head where the hose attaches to the mask hose?
And, have you seen Rested Gal's lab rat on the CF2?

Does this take care of the 'evil' ball and socket issue?
I shouldn't have used the acronym. By CF2, I meant Comfortfull 2. RG's fix refers to the Comfortlite.
It looks like the Comfortgel and Comfortgel Full use the same ball and socket arrangement as the Comfortfull 2. (The one I believe Snoredog was referencing). This is the device for attaching the lower strap to the mask. See pic on cpap.com...

If you have to have the strap tension fairly tight like I do, try to get that attached without looking in the mirror. I think there are still major dents in the far wall of my bedroom from that one!

Thanks, I see about the ball and socket.
It still seems amazing to me that masks are so antiquated at the same time as being advanced. It wasn't that many years ago that doctors were bleeding folks. So, I'm grateful to have a fabulous APAP machine that incredibly senses when I'm exhaling. Having said that, our masks could be soooo much better. Off soapbox now.
