O.T: ANYONE SLEEP BETTER ON A TEMPURPEDIC??

We have the best of both worlds. We bought a sleep number bed 9000 and still have it but the foam that came with it was kind of wimpy and only half the thickness of the foam was true memory foam. So we bought a replacement foam insert from bergad.com vs going back to select comfort.

Bergad is remarkably cheap and its foam is denser. Much better than Costco and friends.

Now I can adjust using the sleep number system and yet it will adjust to the pressure points properly.

Carrie: Is it a real Tempurpedic at Costco or another brand?

Little late but i figured i'd chime in.

I have owned a king celebrity bed [largest at the time when i ordered] for at least 4 years now.

It was pricey but we all know what a good nights sleep can cost.

First impressions were great. It was delievered in the winter and when that thing is cold it holds the shape like you wouldnt believe. Thats the beauty of tempur material.

But... as it warms up it becomes nothing more than foam. Get the sample along with your free video, put it in the fridge, and also warm it up on a hot sunny day and you will see the differences.

I personally do not like the too-soft material when its warm.. and under blankets with two people sleeping on it, its always warm. My g/f however, can't get enough of it.

If i hadn't spent an arm and a leg on it, i would most likely get a different expensive coil mattress thats a bit firmer.

Each to his own, but if you don't like sinking in, don't get one.

Also, the only tempur material in mine is the 1.5" pillow topper and i think 4" under that. Also keep in mind the cashmere cover is non-replaceable and if you get stains on it they void your warranty.

Its a completely different experience, but not one i enjoy anymore. If the material wasn't heat sensitive i'd love it. When it was cold it was the best thing ever.

no_more_headaches, thanks for the tip. I see they offer pads 2 , 3 or 4 inches thick. Which do you recommend? What about the optional terry cloth cover?

Also, a big issue for me is to avoid being hot in bed. Does this pad contribute to buildup of body heat?

some things i've heard about temperpedic:
it gets too hot
people have a hard time getting out of it-its like quicksand, not good if you have problems with aches

Thought I would add this on the Tpedic discussion.

Lots of the cost of this name brand is the advertising and free trials.

Bragada mattress has their own brand which is virtually the same quality stuff.

Locally owned company in my town sells internet and phone nationally and actually I worked for them for a while quite recently. Very nice people and I would have stayed but the job I was doing for them but had no benefits as I was part time. Got a gov't job and moved on.

Prices are 1/2 the name brand. But no free trial. You buy, you own. They also sell toppers.

Memory foam beds are great for some, but as RG said, not for everyone. Check out the ones in the stores and make sure it is for you. Then check out the competitors like Bragada. But be careful. All memory foam is not created equal.

i'm so sorry to hear you have RA...my father has it and he has suffered greatly for many years; his mom had it too, but long before they were able to control the symptoms as well as they can now

my brothers and i live in fear of ending up like my dad

i hope you are able to manage your symptoms well and live a full life

I have a waterbed, will this topper, or any memory foam topper work on a waterbed? I have considered many times of getting one, but hate to spend that kind of money on one , if I cant use it. Just wondering...

Well in our case the goal was to replace the foam insert in the Select Comfort topper section. As a result we got the 4 inch thick topper.

Now the original internal foam was split into two twins so initially I ordered one twin and it arrived covered the terry cloth. Then my wife saw it and said she liked it and wanted it as well so I put the twin topper on a guest bed and ordered a Cal King 4 inch. This time it came without the terry cloth (No price difference BTW). Since the foam went inside the topper the terry cloth was really unimportant to me. For us we don't feel the heat because the mattress cover insulates us from it. If I putting it just under the sheets I would get the cover. I would think a good mattress cover could help in heat dissipation but just like CPAP masks your mileage will very.

I would think the temperature of the foam would be similar to Tempurpedic and friends. I have to say though bergad is denser than Costco and even Tempurpedic. It's all personal preference but I am pretty happy and at their prices i can replace it regularly if I want versus the big prices of new mattresses.

I think it depends on what kind of waterbed. If its one of the older sheet over bladder style, I don't think it would be a good fit. If it's one of the style where you had the tubes inside of a traditional looking mattress then it would probably work.

In all cases if you add 2-4 inches of foam you might need deeper fitted sheets.

Our heater went out on our waterbed and being the energitic sole that I am I didn't want to empty the bed and refill it to replace the heater. Of course, the mattress was cold since it was not heated and the bladder water would be at room temp. What I did was to get a foam (not memory foam) topper and place it over the water bladder and we used it like that for a number of years.

What you could do is try a cheap foam pad first on your water bed to see if the fit is what you would like and try it a couple of nights before purchasing a higher priced memory foam.

Thanks no_more-headaches and SleepyCarol, these are both great ideas. My bed is the older one. I usually use flat sheets for the top and bottom. Had not thought of trying another type of foam topper, that sounds like a great idea. Might work better too!

JOMAC30----the brand at Costco is NOVAFORM --it is just like the terpurpedic material, and I love that topper. You can flip it over and the cover is washable --it is just nice to have ontop of the matress----I think it is worth the 100 or so bucks instead of buying a whole bed made out of that material,
