Can't get individual health insurance due to sleep apnea

Post by rmorrow03 » Fri Jun 03, 2005 1:19 pm

Can someone please tell me which insurance companies will accept someone with sleep apnea. I cannot get covered under an individual plan ever since last year when I was diagnosed with sleep apnea.

I've been afraid to switch insurance companies because of "pre-existing condition" clauses.

Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you. However, I do remember seeing a post from someone that many companies will cover it as long as you are already under CPAP treatment.

Might want to do a text search on the forum since I am not positive my description is accurate.

As long as you keep continuity of your coverage (no lapse), your "pre-existing" condition is covered.

I believe that what you say is only true if you go from one group health plan to another. If you are applying for private insurance coverage pre-existing conditions is an issue even if there has been no lapse in coverage.

You can still get insurance but might have to sign a preexisting cause clause where they won't pay on it for a period of time. Keep trying.
