big news for nasal pillow users
The cpap fairy told me Resmed has a new prototype nasal pillow system expected to be released in a few months. For some reason my DME...er... the cpap fairy...told me it's pretty "hush hush" and he wasnt even supposed to know about it yet. The Resmed sales rep let it slip to him this morning. It's going to be very similar to the swift except much more compact and geared for side and stomach sleepers.
Gee, I am wondering ... will it have face straps like the Swift 1 and Swift 11 , I wish they would make one with NO FACE STRAPS whatsoever and a smaller barrell, that thing is massive and leaves dents under my nose!
I have just quit using the Swift 11 and started using the Headrest as it has NO Face SAtraps at all!
Thanks for the info

Hi There---Have you guys tried the OPI LIFE? The mask is a very simply design and there are not any straps on the forehead. It comes with 4 sizes of nasal pillows too --no leaking for me so far. I just got it recently so I have only used it for a few nights. You can read or watch TV with it on too--nothing that comes up to your eyes or tear ducts. I am a side sleeper and these things seem to stay in place. Easy to clean too---check them out online at CPAP.com---cheers!!

Country,
No the plastic does not touch the mouth, and the plastic wings leave little trace on the face if you use some pada cheeks or such. The strap across the bottom that goes under the chin DOES NOT function as a chin strap, it isn't designed to either, it is there to simply counter balance the straps on the top.
I love the Opti life mask and have been using it since it came out, I like it better than the Swift. I always have problems with the Swift roling down on my face and the pillows than break the seal and leak.
Carrie,
There is a new type of pillow comming out for the Opti life, it is somewhat along the lines of the pillow on the Comfort Curve, only it attaches to the Opti life mask. I will put the pictures up on my photobucket once I get home. My photobucket address is in my profile.

Hi There --yes, I have tried the Swift---it is too big and bulky. The head gear is make for Tarzan or some man with a really BIG head!! I am a side sleeper so I NEED something that stays in one place. The plastic wings on the sides do not cover your mouth. I don't have pad a cheeks yet for this type of mask but so far --no lines on my face at all. The chin strap is good to stablize the nose pillows ---very good seal with 4 sizes of nasal pillows to chose from -----I use the petite size. It is not a complicated mask to get into or out of--it is a simple design--way better than the MIRAGE SWIFT----
Looking forward to seeing that Prototype of the new mask YIPPPEEE!!

LOL Carrie, I must have a huge head, because I find the Swift headgear comfy.
I have learned to velcro the tube almost to the top strap on my headgear and its pretty secure.
I'm relatively happy with the Swift (original), but sometimes that danged pillow feels humongous.
I'm so used to not having anything over my mouth. Does that bother you with the Optilife?

Hi Country--ha!! ha!! Well I thought that I did not have a small head--but I have to double the straps behind my neck to get that one to work for me.
I have not tried the "original" i have the Mirage Swift II Nasal Pillow System. It seems too big for me under my nose ---and I even tried the pumbers tape on the end caps to stop the leaks. It still leaks but I don't know where yet. I just got a new Resmed S8 Elite so I will have some data --I will try those ones again. They should make the barrel part a bit smaller so it won't bang around when I move from side to side.
Ok regarding the OPTI LIFE---the plastic wings don't cover your mouth really--just kind of resting there on either side--it is not noticeable to me. They are VERY light weight plastic and smooth. But I do notice I can hear myself breathing IN and OUT --makes a swooshing noise but I have the EPR turned on to a "2"----so that could be why perhaps.
It is like finding a needle in a hackstack to find a mask that works isn't it? HA!! HAAA!!

Optilife...life after the Swift
I used the original swift for two years - it worked well - the Optilife works even better for me - I guess you just have to invest the time, money and patience, and having gone through many others investing time, money and patience, I am glad I arrived at the Optilife.

Isn't it great that there are different masks for different people.. I have the Opti-life and the first night I put it on I felt like yelling ."FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST". I could see without hindrances. But the noise was so much more than my Comfort Gel that I eventually went back to the first one I started with. I have one for sell if the pillow you mentioned does not take the noise away. I'll see.
thanks for the info

I for one did not like the Optilife. I used it for a time as it was the first nasal pillow mask that I used. I liked the freedom it gave but hated the way it felt on me. The sides irritated my skin and dug into my cheeks. I used the padacheeks and to get the pillows to stay put had to have the mask tight. If felt as though my nose was being pushed into my brain.
Now I use the NAII or the Headrest. Either of these tops the Optilife in my opinion.

I find the Swift 2 pretty comfortable. Sometimes the straps ride up in the back so I did find a sort of solution. I am kinda lazy and not likely to try customizing my mask. I AM addicted to my sleep mask, though, after living in a rented condo with absolutely tons of light shining in every morning. SOooo, I first put the sleep mask on around my neck, then I put the Swift on, and pull the sleep mask up to cover my eyes. It's not a perfect, snug fit, but it does stabilize the Swift. If necessary I tighten the sleep mask. It is a lot on the face but I don't mind and I don't have to keep adjusting the Swift to prevent leaks.
It's simple and requires no skills at all! You obviously can't put the sleep mask on after the interface as the tubing comes off the top, or at least I set mine up like that !

Do you know when this new nose piece (like on the Comfort Curve) will be available for the OptiLife? I have one and like it but I love my Comfort Curve so a nose piece like that for the OptiLife would be great!
Thanks!
Thanks!
