Wow. I'm awestruck by this thread. I was directed here via a post in another thread by -SWS earlier today, and I've been sitting here reading all 35 pages for hours now. This story is simply astounding and gives me real hope for the world - in wonderful contrast to the cynicism I sometimes feel.

What an amazing community this place really is. I was happy to have found it not so long ago, because it was obvious right from the start that this was a group of really good people offering whatever advice and assistance they could, to anyone with a question or an issue re: their xPAP therapy, all with the simple goal of helping another human being. But this outpouring of love and compassion for a beautiful little girl in a terrible situation of need half a world away is just awe-inspiring. Thanks to all of you for giving that to me. Notwithstanding my "newbie" status here, I'm very proud to be a member of this group. You people are awesome.

Ok, I need some Kleenex now. This story has really touched me. Thank you for renewing my faith in mankind.

This thread is simply amazing. Those of you with featured roles are to to be much congratulated.

Is there any news on how Laryssa is doing currently?

I have been thinking about our little angel for the past couple of weeks. I am guessing she is doing well. Hopefully someone will drop by (Brazillian or Claudia) and give us an update.

I have Claudia's email & may drop her a line.

Fresh news!

Post by brazilian » Thu Jun 11, 2009 9:39 am

Friends:

This will be quick, I am leaving to Orlando tonight, and have just spoken to Graziela, Laryssa's mother. She was extremely happy, because the new UPS for Laryssa's BiPAP had just arrived two days ago (this is a true battery UPS, the former one had a very small autonomy)!

Laryssa is doing great! Her 4th birthday is due this 28th and differently from last year (when she still was at the hospital), she will be having her birthday cake at home! I talked to her for a while over the phone, and she is very excited with her upcoming party. She is going to school regularly, and she is as normal, healthy and active as a 4yr old child can be! Thanks again to all of you, angels from all around the world!

Her masks tough, are already gone, mainly because she moves a lot when sleeping. She is using a mask supplied by the hospital, which is not as comfortable as the ones she received from the forum.

I will be in Orlando until the 21st, if someone whishes to send anything for our angel I will be more than glad to bring it with me.

My addresses will be (please pay attention to the dates):

I apologize for being absent from this forum, but now I run my own company, and have been travelling a lot, and even visiting her is quite complicated, since she lives in another town now. I also apologize for having removed some files from my site, since I overused server's space, and my ISP complained with me about that. I will try to post them elsewhere.

And as Dr. Cacau uses to say: Blue kisses on the tip of the nose to you all!

Nelson!!! How wonderfult to hear from you -- and to hear Laryssa is doing so well. None of those wonderful things would have happened for her if you hadn't decided to tell us about her.

Blue kisse to to you and to Dr. Cacau and to Laryssa too.
Good luck with your company.
O.

Nelson,

Many thanks for the update. I had sent a hello to Claudia but hadn't heard back so guessed she was away.

Little Larissa's 4th birthday pictures!!!!

Post by brazilian » Fri Aug 28, 2009 4:22 pm

Hi, everybody!

Laryssa turned 4 years old on june 26th, and here are some pictures taken by her family on that day.
She is healthy and lively, as any child her age, goes to school nearby her house, and plays a lot with children in the neighborhood. She now has a bicycle, and is very happy to ride on it! Her mother is doing a superb job taking care of her, and now they have a good UPS for the BiPAP.

Dr. Alberto Vergara and his team visit her regularly, since she is enrolled in a public health program named 'Ventilar' (a government sponsored program that now takes care of more than 35 patients with different kinds of respiratory problems, and is a model health program in Brazil).

By the way, her old Petite mask is all worn out, and she is currently using one supplied by the program. Unfortunately, it is not a very good mask, and she gets the sores on her nose bridge because of that. In September 10th I will have a colleague travelling from US to Sao Paulo, do you folks think we could manage to get a FlexiFit HC406 Petite Nasal CPAP Mask with Headgear for her?

It is a soul-refreshing thing to see her at home, healthy and playing, when we remember all the saga she went through, and was relieved by the gestures of love of so many people! I would like to say again and forever: many many thanks to all of you, knights and angels from all over the world.

Blue kisses on the tip of the nose to you all.....
