Great pics the mask looks such a nice fit

(I finally found why I wasn't seeing them yesterday - this first occurred with the very 1st pics of the PSG letters posted at the very start of the thread then the pics of Larissa when Brazilian returned there). Seems my Zone Alarm firewall blocks them because of the way they are linked.

Turn off Zone Alarm (drop defense shields) and the pics show up.

I have been away from the computer for a few weeks while I try to get ready for my baby's arrival and was so pleased to check on this thread today and see the absolutely lovely pictures of Larissa.

I am so glad to hear she is doing so well--and is so well adjusted psychologically to her treatment. My own son had sleep apnea and had to have tonsilectomy/adenoidectomy at age 4 and I was worried he might end up on cpap anyway--I did not think he would accept the treatment. But look at Larissa--no struggle at all. The thought that she accepts the treatment for her illness makes me incredibly happy.

I have tried to follow the details of the analysis of her illness but must admit that I cannot make heads or tails of them, but I am praying this is something she will grow out of as she gets older and stronger, with the help of this treatment.

Hugs to all involved in this wonderful endeavor to help this beautiful child!

Jen

Dear friends,

I have just joined this Forum yesterday, and I am simply shocked with this thread.

I would like to help Larissa by any means, as a Brazilian.

I am proud with the attitude of my comrade and in fact I had to wait for my tears stop falling down in order to see the monitor and write this message with a very poor Engllish but a extremely soft heart.

Congratulations for you all. In fact I did not fix names yet or the entire story, thus I will not nominate anybody not to be injust with somebody.

I live in Campinas - São Paulo state and Larissa is in Belo Horizonte - Minas Gerais state capital. (350 miles apart more or less).

Paulo Brazil

Welcome here, Paulo, as you can see, we are not only about Support and Advise, but lots of love and caring as well. There are many many many wonderful people here on this forum, and all with big big hearts. And are here to help in many ways. Laryssa has touched the hearts of thousands. As you can see, there have been almost 13,000 people who have read this thread. Isnt that amazing! But even more amazing, is what all this love has done for Laryssa and her family and her closest friends.

Joyce,

Just to put the 13,000 people in perspective, it is really a lot less but those of us participating come back again and again and again.

The number of 13,000 is the number of viewings. My # is probably 120+ so the actual number of different people following the thread may well be around 1000 or so.

Cheers Doug

Hi Paulobrazil,

Welcome aboard the Love-Train. I have to admit I say goodnight to Larissa every time I hose-up and drop off to sleep. I look at her strapped into her little mask and happily accepting her therapy and I can't help get some perspective.

Hi, Sir Banned!

Good to "hear" from you again!

Talking about "accepting therapy", all of us here are really impressed how a less than 3-year old child can cope with such a situation like this... Laryssa (by the way, that's the right way to spell her name - I've just learned this the other day), when asked what has she got, says with a smile: "apneia do sono"... I wonder if she grasps the extent of it (certainly not), but she is serious about using the mask and the BiPAP every time she goes to sleep...

She is doing extremely well with the BiPAP, Dr. Pedro reported me he was concerned, on the very first day, that her 20-minute lap after lunch suddenly became a sound 2-hour rest. He woke her up, tried to un-mask her, and she just asked him to keep the mask for a while...

Her nose is still sore from the old mask, but is recovering fine, probably in a couple of weeks she will not need the band-aid anymore.

Olá, Paulo Brazil! Benvindo ao grupo, e obrigado por se dispor a ajudar!...

And now, one more picture of our little angel, from May'20.

Blessings to all of you!

Hi Brazilian,

Ask Dr. Pedro to have his staff clean Laryssa's mask and mask cushions daily (inside and out) with a 70% Isopropyl Alcohol. I have used Alcohol Prep Pads for years on my masks, and contrary to what they tell you, it's effective, quick, and the cushion on her new masks will not break-down. The daily sterilization will help heal the sore on her nose.

Best,

If Laryssa is prone to respiratory infection, she might have double incentive for that alcohol swab suggested by Sir Banned.

Just to add a few comments re my own use of this machine - I am getting such good sleep from it but I realise Laryssa is not using the SV function. But, her settings are about as equivalaent as one can get with a tiny child. 15 CMS is one big bang of a lungful. She is getting air without any doubt.

The feeling of restful sleep vs plain sleep is very detectable.

I can picture little Laryssa in a very nice dreaming and sleeping space due to the generosity of Sir Banned (like that title ).

Again I am reminded of what Laryssa represents to us all, cross cultural awareness, the future (being in these babies), the wonders of modern communication even if still textual, the dreams of the future, and the advances of modern medical technology.

Dream Laryssa, - dream of lovely places and wondrous people and the love you have shared across many borders and different faces.

Thank you Doug for pointing this out, I honestly did not think of it like that when I entered the post. I too, am one who keep coming back and reading this thread over and over. And when I just read what you wrote,

Thank you for keeping us posted!! I, too, come back often and read the updates on how she is doing.

I think this shows how compassionate people are. A friend of mine that I work with today asked me about the forum. She doesn't have sleep apnea and does not use the computer except for work related stuff. She stated that she doesn't understand how I can come here and seek advice from complete strangers -- and then actually use their advice. She made the comment that she would never trust anyone on the internet, let alone take their advice. Her comments made me laugh.

I told her that I had made many friends on the forum and told her about our little darling. She was amazed at the outpouring of support that the forum has shown in rallying around this cause!! I told her we are not strangers, we are friends that have come together for support and encouragement and to aid those that need it.
