pjwalman wrote:That's a good thing to mention since lots of people use hubs, Den, but I'm afraid that's not the answer for me personally. I have more than one computer at home so tried plugging it into another one just to make sure it's not a bad USB issue, and the light doesn't come on no matter which computer I try. It's just a plain old dead reader. Luckily another one is on its way from DirectHome.
I'm not having any issues with the driver that I know of. That was someone else that had that problem. Since I don't have a functional reader at this point, of course I'm not sure, but my install seemed to go just fine, and I'm not anticipating any further problems once I get my replacement drive.
Thanks for helping with the troubleshooting!
Peggy
Next "basic" question.........when you say the light doesn't come on.....do you have a card in the reader? (it needs to be in there for the light to come on)

Oh, hell!!! Are you kidding? I am going to feel SOOOOOOOO stupid if that works and I didn't think of that...since the replacement drive is already on its way. I had asked earlier in the thread if the light was supposed to come on when it was plugged in, but I didn't think to ask if the card was supposed to be inserted first. I will try that when I get a chance between jobs. If it works, then I suppose the only decent thing to do would be to keep the extra drive and let DirectHome charge me for it, my price for being an absolute MORON!!
I will keep you posted, Den. Thank you!

Meanwhile, I think the reason it isn't working for me is that I'm using Vista 64bit.
The EncoreViewer program will install but it will not install the card reader drivers (not from the viewer CD or even from the memory card reader CD I'm not supposed to use). If I go into the Encore Viewer disc I find an install program specifically for memory card readers, but when I run the installer it always ends with "the install process was interrupted".
I've gotten the software installed on my work laptop (Win XP), but this is not an optimal long term solution.

That seems harsh. Maybe you should pick up the extra shipping, but there's no need to blow that much money on a extra drive you don't need! It was an easy mistake to make, and it is bound to happen occasionally since they don't provide tech support.

Everybody needs two readers, you need the second one to troubleshoot the first. Jim I have two....

I'm with Goofproof/Jim on this. KEEP the second one for a spare. (I have three card readers) You just never know when some of these things may disappear from the market.

Yup, it's confirmed I'm a moron! All I had to do was put the card in the reader first! I have just printed out my first report, thanks to you, Den!! And I think you guys are right that I might as well keep the second reader when it gets here since, as you pointed out, you never know when you might need a backup. I don't think DirectHome will mind when I call to give them my credit card.
Looking at my report, I came up with an interesting observation/question which I will post in another thread, but just in a quick question, my report would not show centrals under the NR category because I'm not on APAP or it would still show them on straight CPAP? (Still sweating the fact that my sleep study showed more than half of my 84.3 AHI being centrals, and I don't have a doc appointment until the 28th.)
Thanks again, everyone, for helping me get my reader working! I can't believe I missed something so basic, but I guess I can blame it on lack of sleep. Right? (wink)

Nope, the report will not provide NR, because the NR's result from pressure changes which have failed to correct apneas or hypopneas. In CPAP mode the machine can't change pressure, hence no NR's.

To add onto Bill's post, I believe you have to have a range with max - min to be at least 3 to have NR's show up. For example, I have a range of 8 to 10 so my max - min is only 2 so I should not have a NR show up.

But, at least you're among friends and fellow morons......
We won't tell ANYBODY.
Glad to hear that worked.
Best wishes.
