Warning-Respironics HH leaks UNDER the unit
Insomniyak,
The only real benefit to having a 12V humidifier is being able to use it off the grid. Up here I have many patients who run their cpap's off 12v power all the time. They live in the bush and use a generator to charge a bank of batteries that they use at night. Ofcourse it comes in handy for camping and use in the RV as well.
If you have 2 cords comming off the power brick, the one going to the humidifier is 110V. It is only on a pass thru circuit that can be removed from the rest of the power brick. On the 12V model there is only 1 cords comming from the power brick which plugs into the humidifer and than a short cord that runs from the humidifer to the cpap.

As long as there is not a safety issue related with the 110V, It is not that important to me. I don't go camping, don't have an RV, etc. If I used it off a battery in a power outage, I'd just use the CPAP and simply use the humidifier like a pass-through. In fact, when I fly, I plan on just taking the CPAP off of the humidifier and using it as a stand-alone, could fit a few extra things in that bag that doesn't count as a carry-on . I did also manage to get the elbow and the peice that you need to use it as a stand-alone.
AT least I have the updated design to the tank itself so I don't really need to worry about that. The seal is thin, but is the grey gasket that is flat all the way around with the clip that is black. I would definitely emphasise not filling the water past the lines though.
By the way, you said patients, what do you do??

Thats not true!! Only the bad ones fall into that class. We have some very good RT's that work for some B&M DME's and we have a lot of respect for their opinion. Now, which catagory do you fall into?Anonymous wrote:I'm an RT and a Sleep Tech. I work for a B&M DME aka "The Devil" here on cpaptalk.

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting: "Wow what a ride!"

Interesting twist, I just called the DME to ask how often can I replace the gel/ cushion with my insurance. They told me every month, then they also told me what else can be replaced when, in addition to masks and headgear. Gound out that Anthem at least allows for the tank to be replaced every 6 months, and the reason was that some people neglect cleaning them or use tap water. I wonder if the real reason is due to the topic of this post. In 6 months, I should at least get one for back-up.

What a great thread this is.
My hubby and I were diagnosed and got machines within a week of each other, earlier this month. We both got the M Series with the humidifiers. Our designs are different. I got the one with the staggered round tubes and he got one that has two level rectangular openings. But he got an external port cover and I didn't. We have to get things straightened out.
Not having heard of any recalls, I'll have to see if his might be one that is recalled. He's had it less than 2 weeks, but his booklet says something like 2005.
The bad part is that he is on a plane right now to Chicago. I better warn him about making sure the cords are tight and that everything is sealed properly.
Thanks for all of the warnings.

Re: Warning-Respironics HH leaks UNDER the unit
I am on my second heated humidifier for the Respironics AutoSV. I use a pressure of 28 and have puddles on my wood floors from the humidifier. I complained and got a new chamber, complained again got no response so quit using the humidifier for the summer. I finally got a replacement humidifier and after a month it leaked again and I just am so fed up. Any thoughts?

A thought: the thread is over 8 years old.
One would think Respironics has solved this problem--unless you have an old machine.
You should contact the dealer; or Respironics if it is still under warranty.
