resmed masks

I'm considering a Resmed mask. Has anyone tried the Mirage Micro?

I just got one totally unexpected today. So I guess I can play guinea pig and let you know how my first night w/it turns out.

I was issued a bi-level and tonight will be my first night on bi-level as well so this should be interesting.

It does seem to be much like the Quattro, but smaller, and, of course, it is a nasal cushion rather than a full face and I was happy to see not as "deep" in "height" at the bridge of the nose. Or maybe I should say as "long" at the bridge of the nose. I've never used any of the other Mirage masks so have nothing but the Quattro to compare it to. I usually use the Respironics Simplicity nasal cushion.

And it sure must be smaller than most masks because I usually need a Small, Petite or XSmall and the two cushions that came w/it were the Large and the Medium - and they seem to fit quite well w/o xPAP. Both sizes, surprisingly. The Large might be a shade long overall fitting somewhat lower on the upper lip/nose region so I'm going w/the Medium for tonight.

Slinky please let me know how that medium fits you because I know we have some of the same issues.

Will do, DieselGal. When I first started on CPAP I used the F&P HC 407 FlexFit for awhile and it was a shade too long and never got a chance to try the FlexFit 406 before settling on that Respironics Simplicity. The 407 wasn't as "deep" or "long" at the bridge of the nose like the Quattro is.

I have used both the Resmed Mirage Micro and the Hybrid with the same problems, the pillows leak. It is less of a problem with the Hybrid because one can vary the height of the pillows, but still a problem

This mask does not have pillows as far as I know. It's supposed to be a nasal mask. Correct me if I'm wrong because I just ordered it and I cannot use nasal pillows.

The Micro does NOT have nasal pillows, it is a nasal cushion mask. "Guest" probably has the name mixed up w/the name of another.

Does anyone know if the hard plastic width of the Mirage Micro is the same as that of the Mirage Activa? I am using the Fisher and Paykel Flexifit 407 and whilst it tends to leak (so I have the straps pretty tight and look like I have tire tracks on my face in the morning), I find I can sleep on my side without my face pointing upwards. I would try the Micro if it isn't too wide. I tried the Activa and found that a bit wide at the widest point.

Thanks

I haven't used the Activa but just got the Micro. I usually need a Small, Petite or an XSmall. I'm finding that the Micro is fine around the bottom of the nose, BUT, I think it is the width at the bridge of the nose that is giving me problems. It seems that it just might be too narrow at the bridge. (I'm talking hard plastic part or frame). I do not have a particularly wide nose at all but right at the bridge I do have a wider area of hard bone that all these hard plastic frames like to sit on.

I've probably used the Micro less than an hour or hour and a half total between my first and second nights w/it and I'll try it again tonight but I'm beginning to think it just is not going to work for me. Its very comfortable except for the bridge of the nose area and I want to make sure just what is the real cause of my problems at the bridge of the nose before I give up on it.

Could you put a cotton square on the spot where it hits your nose? I've been using those quilted cotton squares which I think are supposed to be for applying make up. I put them under the straps of the headgear that touch my cheeks and they make it more comfy.

I had put this under another topic but it was suggested I put it here.

My sleep lab loaned me a new Mirage Micro about 2 weeks ago and I really like it. It included the medium and large size, tried both, but am using the medium. It is very comfortable, few leaks, easy to adjust and my AHI has been below 2.0 every night, even managed one night with 0.0. YEAH! First time ever. I have been on CPAP for almost 3 years and tried lots of masks. I was using the Soyala Nasal Mask and I like it also but I like the Mirage Micro more. Before that used the Activa and also liked it but if I had to put those three in order of preference it would be 1. Mirage Micro; 2. Soyala; 3. Activa. Really did not have much success with the many others I tried. I have to return this one in 2 weeks but will purchase my own at that time. Everyone is different but think I've found a keeper.

Tried the mask..

Post by katusha » Thu Mar 27, 2008 7:05 pm

..and did not like it.
It kept leaving a painfull mark on the bridge of my nose for the rest of the day. The tech who gave it to me, mentioned that many people have the same issue. But I gave it a try anyway. If you wear glasses to read or watch TV before sleep it is not going to be possible with this mask.

Slinky, any updates on the Mirage Micro? What size are you using? I have put my name on a waitlist to trial it. My sleep centre doesn't have any stock of them yet. Meanwhile, I've had to go back to using my chinstrap (even though it's pretty useless..the simple one I think is called the sullivan) because the area between my upper lip and under my nose is sooooo sore from taping. Have tried two different brands of micropore tape (nexcare and leukopore), but have shown a lot of sensitivity. Bought some poligrip tape today and will try that tonight. Sleep centre gave me another chinstrap to try (topaz) but it is so big it falls off!! (didn't know you could get different sizes?) so I haven't been able to use it. Also, tonight I'll try a loaner Ultra Mirage II nasal mask. Everything is so expensive here in Australia.. I only want to have to buy one extra mask. I understand that it's good to have a substitution when you get some sore places from the mask?

Cheers
