Anybody else discover Cayenne Pepper?
Six or eight months ago I took a battery of health screening tests at work (LDL/HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, etc.), and the woman who explained my results to me started talking about the wonderful health benefits of Cayenne Pepper. She sounded believable, so I investigated. Searching revealed that not only is Cayenne Pepper an ancient herbal preparation, but modern medicine also attributes a number of beneficial effects to its use.
As contradictory as it sounds for a spicy-hot substance, one of the main benefits I attribute to taking Cayenne Pepper is essentially complete elimination of acid-stomach and GERD symptoms. I've been taking Cayenne Pepper for maybe six months now and to say that my digestion has improved would be an understatement. Formerly, I found it necessary to be very picky about what I ate and I couldn't eat within about five hours of going to bed without repercussions.
I'm also sure that Cayenne Pepper has improved my circulation, but can't quantify that. There are some amazing claims made for it in regard to heart health, though, and it is recognized as being a heart nutrient. Although modern medicine doesn't attribute circulatory benefits to Cayenne Pepper, it is listed as interacting with warfarin and coumadin, meaning that Cayenne Pepper thins the blood as well.
Anyway, just curious if anyone else here has enjoyed the benefits of Cayenne Pepper?
Regards,
Bill

I've been taking a teaspoonful in a glass of water twice a day.
I just today noticed a recommendation to make a tea of it with "hot" water, but so far I've just used "cold" water. I find the Cayenne Pepper so hot that my habit is to follow it with a small amount of Tapioca pudding. That doesn't totally take the sting out, but makes it more tolerable.

I take it in capsules, you can get it from GNC.

From the bumper sticker of someone needing CPAP:
I'm RETIRED
I was tired yesterday
I'm tired again today.

Yeah I was just checking for capsules, I like Cayenne, but 1 tsp is a lot at to drink at once.
I also checked the other forum again and someone there puts the cayenne on a spoon and covers it with molasses and says it coats everything and makes it quite tolerable. Another person said start with 1/4 tsp and work up slowly to get used to it. They (on that forum) say it clears sinuses, and helps with colds. I don't know, but if it helps with gerd and circulation thats good enough to make it worth trying.
I suppose it would be wrong of me to mention that they also say it can "burn twice"

It's my understanding that Cayenne Pepper stimulates the intestinal tract into more normal operation. Spicy foods certainly increase mucosal secretions in the mouth and sinuses. Spicy foods can flood the eyes with tears. It seems reasonable that a similar protective effect occurs in the digestive system as well.Gerald wrote:I'm very curious about how you injest Cayenne Pepper.....and how you do it so that acid-stomach or GERD is avoided.
Please let us know more.........

Like others have said, there is an adjustment period though. It's best to start with small amounts.

Ok... some more input.
I've been an addict of spicy items for years, though not the blistering hot items or concoctions. Black pepper is one of my favorites, with cayenne not far below.
I also like to occasionally sip hot pepper juice from a jar after the peppers are gone. The large quantity of sodium in some types and brands appears to have no ill effects. But the juice seems to cleanse and aid in digestion and elimination.
I've also been taking brown vinegar multiple times daily for a few years. I discovered, through reading and personal experiences, that along with quick-dissolve aspirin small clots and moderate to severe chest pain can be reduced or tamed. That lessens or negates the need for taking nitro.
Though, I do not recommend that anyone else avoid the ER in the ways I choose to.
The health benefits of brown vinegar, with unfiltered being the best, have been touted for centuries.
Certain types of peppers, and ground pepper, are also long touted for a multitude of health benefits.
Though, I was unaware that GERD was one of the ailments that cayenne helped offset.

I love Cayenne, I use it in most of my cooking (you should try my cheesecake), but I definitely have NOT seen it to reduce GERD symptoms. I get a lot MORE reflux/heartburn when I use too much cayenne.
But as always, your mileage may vary.
Liam, who also finds it makes a nice replacement when he's out of contact saline solution.
