CPAP & surprise effect

Post by kteague » Sat Mar 22, 2008 10:18 am

There are studies out there on the subject with a wide range of "results' from 1/3 to 2/3 of men reporting this effect. (I Googled it) While diabetes can cause ED, I wonder how many cases get blamed on diabetes when it is actually sleep apnea.

REM sleep is the reason you are having an erection. Sexual Arousal is one of the things that happens to the body during REM. Women also become aroused during REM sleep.

Congratulations for getting into REM.

Yeah, what he said. It's normal.

CPAP lowers night time b p

Post by Captain_Midnight » Sat Mar 22, 2008 11:32 am

Adding to what poster Gerald said, CPAP therapy can, indeed, lower nighttime blood pressure (aka "dipping").

Here's and article that shows just that (see Table 2)

And, Titrator is correct w the association w REM phase. See...

[quote="Anonymous"]I don't mean for this to be inappropriate at all, but this is the second night in a row I have woke up in the night with an erection. The first thing that comes to my mind is autoerotic asphyxiation. Does this mean I'm not getting enough oxygen because of the CPAP machine? It seems counterintuitive but I'm a bit worried about it now. I also feel very hungry when I wake up after a few hours on this thing.

Wow...how do you come to THAT conclusion from a midnight hard-on?!

Unless such bizarre things normally excite you, I would say that you are finally rested, your bodily functions are returning to normal and you are just having some "fun" dreams.
Gives some insight into his mind...must have a dirty mind to come up with an idea like that!

Joking

Sleep apnea is being linked to the secondary form of hypogonadism. I experienced the exact same thing when I started CPAP. Hadnt had a nighttime or early morning erection in ten years, had one the very first night of CPAP though. Was really wild and felt good.

I believe it has something to do with the paralyzation that happens during REM? It should happen about every 90 minutes during sleep.

Increased blood flow, increased blood pressure, increased heart rate.

I must figure out a way to get the mask on my wife without waking her! And then I can do some research? Just joking!

Depending on how old you are, it could mean different things. I don't think it's a matter of just coming alive again.
I think it's something I would bring up to my doctor.

Perhaps it is best to discuss it rather than "bring it up" ...
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Actually I thought that because the CPAP gave me the sensation of being breathless. But I don't deny having that kind of mind
