I offered to pay, but the MD laughed and said, "Here we believe healthcare is a human right".

Another Bernie fan here to chime in.
The USA definitely needs to get the profit out of healthcare and implement a "Medicare for All" single-payer healthcare system. Private Health Insurance needs to be eliminated entirely, in my opinion. The ACA is better than nothing at all, but it's a republican idea (Heritage Foundation/Individual Mandate)... and 99 times out of 100... republican ideas are bad for the middle class, working folks, etc.
For years I was on Anthem and the premiums kept skyrocketing long before the ACA went into effect. My premium went from $93 in 2004 to $350 a month in 2013. Lucky for me.. I got married, ditched my Anthem policy and was able to sign up on my wife's insurance, Coventry of Virginia..which is a sub-company of Aetna. Coventry has been much more affordable than Anthem, but I'm still having to pay a substantial amount, out of pocket, for my new CPAP and a recent ER visit.
