Difficulty falling asleep
Difficulty falling asleep
Have had the cpap for about a month but still have a hard time falling asleep. Comfort is not the issue, just have a very restless feeling about an hour after going to bed. Takes a couple of hours before it goes away.

I sometimes have this problem. I can be falling asleep on the couch, but once I get into bed can find myself laying wide awake for a long time. I did this prior to CPAP so I know it's not related. There is a lot of info out there about preparing your self for sleep. Like not eating and performing certain activities too close to bedtime. Some read, others take various meds, including benadryl and prescription sleep aids.

I am trying to figure out why it was so easy for me to adjust. I guess I have seen some success stories, and read the studies.
Lately I have been wondering why I can fall asleep within 1/2 hour of lights out. Maybe it is because I wear glasses. I am used to a form of head-gear?? Do you wear glasses? If not I would be curious as to whether wearing some obtrusive type of goggles (tightly strapped) for several hours before falling asleep would help?
It could be your mask also, or maybe the ramp pressure or pressure in general. OR maybe you need to get used to wearing head gear.

Hey IWS, I agree, why can I fall asleep watching TV but then if I get up and go to my bed I am totally awake? The human body is a mess in our new high tech world.
I would recommend asking your doctor for sleeping pills for a few weeks until you get to wear the mask is part of the ritual and you don't even think about it. I had no trouble and I do wear glasses, hmm, I wonder

falling asleep made easy
A friend of mine was getting over the counter sleeping pills and when I looked at the active ingredients, it was just benedryl. I took her to Costco/Sam's Club and got her a 400 unit bottle of 25 mg. for $3.99. That's a penny each. At the sleep clinic, one of the nurses told me she takes benedryl to fall asleep also, only she takes 4 pills, while I only need one. Make sure your doctor agrees before trying any medication.
