Resmed S8 Elite data

Post by trice54 » Sat Mar 01, 2008 7:05 pm

I have seen some posts where the author has mentioned getting info from their S8 in the morning, on the LCD and they don;t have any software shown in their profiles... HOW do you get that info? THe only thing my screen shows is the hours used. Is it something that the DME people can program in? I have the smart card but it sounds like I would need a card reader and the software to be able to see the info. Thanks!

Trice,

I'm not sure if the elite is data capable - I think it might be (I just don't know). If it is, hold down the left and right buttons simultaneously for about 4 or 5 seconds. The screen should change and you can navigate the data.

Oh you know what...maybe I saw 'ResMed S8' on a profile and thougt it was an Elite...I see from the last post that there are other S8s.. So maybe my Elite won;t show the stuff...I'll look into the above suggestion..thanks!

Trice,

The Elite is fully data capable, so if you do indeed have one, the left/right arrow thing will work. When the screen changes, it says "efficiency data" - Thats where the AHI etc is found.

The Elite is indeed fully data capable. In addition to the great info already offered, you can purchase the software and accessories to download and learn all about your useage: ResScan data card, card reader and software. Mind you, this will set you back well over $200, and these materials are getting harder to puchase all the time. You can also view all your settings by holding down the Start/Stop and right arrow buttons on your machine simultaneously for 3 seconds. This puts in the Clinical Menu. But be very careful not to change anything if you do not know what you're doing!!

This gives you 99% control of your equipment and your therapy.

THANKS, Capri and RiverDave.. Capri...how possible is it to change settings without trying? I am kinda scared now to try to get to the info in case I inadvertantly make a change! As for the extras for the reader and software..yeah, I am not ready to get into all that. I would just like to have an idea of how things are going. Thanks again for your advice! Trice

If it is either a S8 Elite/Autoscore or a S8 Vantage/Autoset-Spirit, it will definitely display the summary Efficacy and Compliance data.

If it is a S8 Escape/Lightweight, it will only display the Compliance data.

Cheers,

Bill

I have this machine and really like it, but then its the only one I have ever had, so no real frame of reference.

The Advanced Patient or Efficiency Data Menu will show you

1. Pressure, which is your average pressure throughout the night.

2. Leak Rate in liters per hour. If your mask is entered correctly into your machine, which the RT at the DME provider should have done for you when they gave you the machine, this will be accurately shown here. This is measured to the hundredth of a liter per hour (.00). Ideally, I like to have this be less than .10, but mine does spike some nights for various reasons. I had a lot of leaks every time I tried the Swift, but hopefully it is working for you.

3. AHI, which should be under 5.0

4. AI.

5. HI. This number always seems high to me, and a lot of people who have been doing CPAP a lot longer than me say that the Resmed machines register a lot more of these than actually occur.

I think someone already mentioned this, but you access this menu by pressing and holding the left and right buttons for a few seconds until the menu changes to "Efficiency Data".

You can get the software which will show you all of this and I think a bit more, or just review or record this info every morning. Be sure to review or record it before noon because that is when the machine dumps the data into the weekly/monthly/6 months/yearly file. You can look at this infor by pushing the button under the "day" in the lower right part of each screen. For example, if you want to see what your weekly AI average is, just go to the AI screen and push the button below the word "day" in the lower left screen (I think this is the Left button, sorry I am at work and can't double check it!) and the "day" will change to "wkly" and show you your average.

If you want to change your settings and should happen to figure out the correct buttons to push to get to the Clinical Menu, just be sure to go through the menus and write down all of your original settings first, so that if you make a change and don't like it you can change it back.

There are some excellent posts here about why it is advantageous for CPAP patients to monitor their therapy, and you should definitly read them. You are way more likely to suceed at this if you monitor your data, so I commend you for wanting to learn how. If anyone gives you any grief about it, remind them that they are your medical records and you have every right to access them. Any more questions just come back and ask, someone will give you what you need.

trice,

If you use the left/right button trick, you can't change any of the settings.
If you get into the clinical menu (top/right buttons), that's where you have to be careful. I wouldn't be worried about changing anything because for each change you make, you have to select "apply". It's just a cautionary note to let you know you need to pay attention when you are in there.

I can confirm what RiverDave said: you can't make any changes without several button presses and then pressing "Apply", which acts like a confirmation that you wanted to change something.

So, it might be possible to change something accidentally, but it's extremely unlikely.

And I will reiterate previous posts, you can NOT intentionally OR accidentally change ANYTHING in the Efficacy Data menu. That's the Left & Right simultaneous button press held for 3-4 seconds until Efficacy Data appears in the screen. Play around w/the button presses all you want in that menu. It will give you familiarity, confidence and comfort w/moving around the LED screens.

Left button press Enters, Right button press Exits, Up button press returns to the previous screen, Down button press takes you to the next screen.

It is not unless you use another button COMBINATION that takes you to the Clinician's Menu that you have to be more attentive to each word on the LED screen and which buttons you press that you can make any changes in therapy (or data such as time, date, hours used, etc.)

ENJOY accessing that Efficacy and Usage data and getting comfortable w/the button functions w/o worry for now.

When you are comfortable with those button functions THEN is the time to access the Clinician's Menu if you opt to do so. And that is the time to heed Alnhwrd's advice to just be sure to go through the menus and write down all of your original settings first, so that if you make a change and don't like it you can change it back to your original scripted settings.

Thanks for all the advice and REASSURANCE about finding the info on my machine! I was still a little scared to try it, even after a PM I got, but it sounds like I can do it! I am not interested at this point in changing anything...I am still too new at this. I just don;t want to blindly think that it is working well if it is not, so the data will be helpful for that.
Thanks again!
Trice
