Respironics Virtuoso LX
Does any one know about this apap?
I know it is an older model and am interested in it for a back-up machine. Does it need special hoses, can it be reprogrammed by the user (me), anything else?
Thanks.

Try a search on e-Bay. You can buy a Clinician's Manual for it for $7 or less. I bought one for my son-in-law for his Virtuoso LX. And you are right, by today's standards it is an oldie. He's had it quite a few years now. It is compatible w/EncorePro and has data card capabilities. You can find the User's Manual for it at:
http://global.respironics.com/UserGuide ... uosoLX.pdf
Specifications for Respironics Virtuoso LX
Pressure Range 3 cm to 20 cm H2O
Ramp Time 0 to 45 min. (5-min. increments)
Starting Ramp Pressure 4 to CPAP (CPAP mode); patient-adjustable
Dimensions 10" (L) x 5.5" (w) x 4.75" (h), 25 cm (L) x 14 cm (w) x 12 cm (h)
Weight 3.5 lbs (1.6 kg)
Filters Pollen and optional Ultra-fine
Device Set-Up Via Onboard Keypad and SmartCard
Data Storage Capacity 4.5 months @ 3 usage sessions/day @ 40 pressure changes/day, plus misc. FOSQ tests
Data Storage Content Date/time, duration at pressure, ramp usage + daily pressure profile
Compliance Meter Time @ pressure
Altitude Compensation n/a
Electrical Requirements 100 – 240 AC, 12 VDC
DC Power Direct-connect cord
Warranty 2 years
I've seen it advertised recently for $850 for the unit. The Virtuoso was one of the first auto-titrating machines on the market. It is a snore detector only and has no apnea detection or "flow base" detection and it is restricted to only certain types of passover humidifiers.

Yup,
Good reliable machine. They are a few years old (pre Remstar) but being Respironics are very well made & made to last. There was a family of machines around the theme of music (Duet, Quartet, etc:) IIRC the Duet was a BiLevel & I know the Quartet was a 4 function clinical machine.

Carol,
Don't waste your money on Ebay or elsewhere. I have the service manual for that machine. It's about 5 MB in a .pdf file, but I can send it to you if you'll PM me with your e-mail address.

My concern is I found the manual I can download but it appears that there it takes a special hose to use it and it doesn't come with one. Can you still get the hose for it to work?
I don't care about the age of the machine just that it works and would be okay for a back-up.
Can you use a regular hose with it? Thanks.

The main hose that goes to the mask appears to be "standard", however, there's an "outlet swivel" that has a port that a length of "pressure tubing" attaches to and then plugs back into a little port next to the hose swivel. I would imagine that the pressure tubing wouldn't be that hard to find, but if it doesn't have the hose swivel......??? There may be some available, somewhere, but then there may also be some more modern machines available....cheap,, too. You may want to bide your time and wait for a better one.

How much is one worth? I don't want to pay more than it is worth and am unsure if I should keep bidding as you said there might be others that would be newer.

I don't know. I was looking through CPAPAuction and couldn't find one just like the one you mentioned, but I would think, even in excellent condition.....much less than $50. I wouldn't even pay that much for one. There's lots of this stuff available......newer, too.
Just my opinion.

I really appreciate your help Den!!
I would like a back up machine -- something to have on hand if I needed while mine is being repaired or whatever. I got my machine at the end of August so should be good to go for quite a while but I don't think I can sleep without it now as I am so used to it.
I put in a bid of $42.00 + the 18.00 for shipping and am passing on it now.
I will bide my time until I can find what I want at a good price.

I didn't see it in the picture, but you might check with the seller to see if they have the "outlet swivel" and the "pressure tubing" to go with it.

APAP?
Hey Carol!
Do you really need your backup machine to be an APAP, or would a CPAP suffice for occasional use? You can find much better deals on straight-CPAP's than you can APAP's. That being said you might really need an APAP but I just thought I might try to save you some $$.
Bert =)
P.S. If that Virtuoso is anything like my Duet, then it is LOUD!!! (like, unbelievably-you-may-not-be-able-to-fall-asleep loud)

That would work and would be great except my script is for a "smart cpap" and I can only bid on apaps.
I have been watching craigslist for a good used cpap but so far there hasn't been many listed and the few that has been I have responded to and haven't heard anything back.
