This is in regard to your discussion on a thread about another subject.
GERD: I don't know if this can be true of anyone else, but my food does not seem to digest or at least get through my system past the regurgitate point as fast as normal people. Doing everything you have all mentioned on the Gerd list still did not retard some regurgitation about an hour into sleep time. So I tried eating my (small) evening meal earlier, making sure I ate nothing 5 hours before bedtime instead of the recommended 2 or 3 hours before. It worked!!
I have experimented since the discovery and now am able to eat a peeled apple or canned fruit that contains no added sugar as late as 3 hrs before bedtime. Everything else I've tried eating 3 hrs before still leaves me with Gerd about an hour after falling asleep.
I can't say enough about experimentation to determine what works for your body, no matter what the medical experts tell us.
FOOD TOXICITY: Jen, milk, eggs (whites more so than yolks), cranberry, baker's and brewer's yeast are all toxic to my system. Sub-factions of milk found in whey and cheese tested negative. I also tested negative to candidiasis even though I have the yeast toxicity. I was told to continue on the four day rotation diet because I can develop toxicity to other foods if eaten more often than every four days. I have felt so much better that I have not yet experimented to see if perhaps I can put one or more of these four foods back in my diet.
My main symptoms were edema, headache, constipation, and fatigue. The body swelling is gone, constipation very seldom a problem now, very seldom get headache, and now have enough energy to exercise 30 minutes each day. Every time I get tired of the diet, I remind myself what life was like before.
WHEN CPAP TREATMENT ISN'T REMOVING SYMPTOMS: Cpap therapy often doesn't remove all our symptoms; we may have other undiagnosed health problems that doctors don't consider or test for. When cpap therapy doesn't seem to be helping, it is very important to STAY ON cpap therapy (which may save us from heart attack, stroke, Alzheimer's, etc) but also look for any other malady that might need to be treated as well.

Alisha

Alisha,
Good for you for figuring this out. I eat an early small supper and then a easily digested snack still several hours before bed and that has improved my gerd symptoms during pregnancy immensely.
You may want to have an upper GI scope to see if the sphinter at the bottom of your stomach is working properly.
Also, there is a drug called Reglan which can help your stomach empty its contents sooner. It has side effects, however. It was recommended for my infant son when he had reflux but I refused it for him as an infant. It could possibly be more tolerable for an adult, I have no idea.
I would recommend a couple of things. If you cannot tolerate dairy and therefore yoghurt, you may want to try Natrol Biobeads. I have seen some significiant improvement in my digestion since I started taking these a few weeks ago. Most acidophilis supplements are a.) made with dairy or b.) do not survive the digestive tract. Natrol has solved both problems.
Make sure you are getting your omega 3's too--both plant and fish forms if you can. I happen to like Natrol's Omega Complex. No I don't work for Natrol, I only recently discovered these two products and both have REALLY helped me mentally and physically.
It is really tough having food allergies/intolerances. No one seems to understand this.
Dr. Andrew Weil has some info in his books/website about how to combat food allergies. I think he recommends grape seed extract or pycnogenol to try to seal up the leaks in the capilaries that cause "leaky gut syndrome" which is blamed for food allergies/intolerances. I tried it for a while years ago before my first pregnancy, but was too had too many things/illnesses going on at the time to say for sure if I saw any help from it. When I am done being a "baby home and/or baby food supply machine" I may try taking that supplement again. Avoiding dairy and soy have made a world of difference in my life, though.
Good luck to you!
Jen

I agree with the upper GI scope. I have had my spincter streched twice and after the 1st time, was put on Reglad 3 per day and protonix (acid reducer). I cut my caffeine to 1/2 (should cut it our completely, but did not . As for the Reglan, I did not have side effects, but am now down to once a night if I feel like my food is just not digesting and moving as it should. Good luck with this I know it can be quite frustrating and socknister has given some really good ideas!
