RESMED TO INCREASE PRICES SIGNIFICANTLY TO INTERNET CUSTOMER
RESMED TO INCREASE PRICES SIGNIFICANTLY TO INTERNET CUSTOMER
For reasons I am sure you will understand I cannot use my real identity in this post. However, I feel that it is very important to get the word out that Resmed has decided to take another stab at putting internet providers out of business and in doing so Resmed is going to take additional money out of your pockets and food off your table if you allow them to.
Late this afternoon Resmed sent out an e-mail to all Resmed Preferred Internet Providers informing them that effective April 1, 2008 a significant increase in the minimum internet retail price would go into effect. The increase amounts to the following:
S8 AutoSet Vantage $1,275.00 an increase of $450.00
S8 Elite $995.00 an increase of $300.00
S8 Escape $825.00 an increase of $200.00
S8 Compact $795.00 an increase of $200
Remember these prices are before you add the cost of a heated humidifier.
In this e-mail release Resmed went on to state, "This is for your information only at this time and may not be pre-advertised or disclosed to patients."
It is obvious that Resmed is someones whore. The question is whose? The brick and mortar dealers or the doctors who sell the product.
The e-mail was signed by Ben Cheah, Director of Sales Operations. Not that it will help but maybe if Mr. Cheah received enough e-mails Resmed may reconsider this foolishness. You may e-mail Mr. Cheah at benc@resmed.com

Thanks for the info.
Too many clichés come to mind......
Maybe all of those "Resmed Preferred Internet Providers" are now gonna feel like they were sucker punched. Hmmmm???
"Stupid is as Stupid does." (ResMed in particular)
It seems obvious how much effect the Internet sellers are having on the brick and mortar sellers AND, how little ResMed actually cares about the patients with Sleep Apnea.

If this news is true, I think ResMed is trying to price their machine much closer to world wide price. In the US, xPAP is selling cheap, two to three times cheaper than many other countries. You can try checking CPAP pricing in Australia for example. This policy will end people from other countries to buy xPAP from US.
I guess the other manufacturers will increase price too, very soon. It's all about $$$.

So true. I'm glad I live in a country where I can't even buy a life-saving device without shelling out $1,000, requiring a doctor's prescription (more $), one or two sleep studies (observation and titration), etc.GreenIce wrote:It's all about $$$.

End of the Internet CPAP Providers?
Wulfman, it will be very interesting to see what the Resmed Preferred Internet Providers will do with this one. Sucker punch? More like a knife in the back.
With Respironics and Fisher & Paykel coming out with their own internet policies, are we looking at the beginning of the end for the Internet Providers?

Re: End of the Internet CPAP Providers?
Either way, you get "hurt". Without knowing all of the contractual details between manufacturers and the Internet Providers, it's hard to determine how much blood will flow (to use the "knife" analogy). In any case, I'm sure it would have created alot of "BAD BLOOD" between them.Anonymous wrote:Wulfman, it will be very interesting to see what the Resmed Preferred Internet Providers will do with this one. It may depend on how many manufacturers jump on this bandwagon and if it starts looking like "collusion" or some other cartel-like plan. I would imagine that the manufacturers BESIDES the two R's and F&P may look at this as an opportunity for them......after all, how many brick & mortar sellers actually sell the other brand names?
If Puritan Bennett would add some sort of exhale relief to their machines and some of the others would "get with the program" as far as data capabilities and software, there's a LOT of opportunity out there.
From what I've read, there are several other manufacturers that have machines that give very quiet and comfortable therapy (including exhale relief)......they just need the data capabilities and software.
If the manufacturers absolutely don't want the Internet sales, it seems to me like they'd just quit selling to the online suppliers.
Could create more of the auction-type sales. Has anyone noticed how many (apparent) DMEs are selling their inventory on CPAPAuction.com?
It's going to be an "interesting" year (or so).

This is very detailed, very aggressive, and comes from a "guest" that refuses to use a normal online identity.
Is he/she afraid that Mr. Resmed is going to send his cousin "Guido" to break his/her knuckles?
I always read stuff like this for recrational value ... not fact. It sounds more like one of the Marketing weenies from a competitor is having a little fun.
Anonymity is like a "Cloak of BS".
I'll wait for the press release and price increase before I believe any of this. For now, it's just unverifiable hog-wash.

Re: RESMED TO INCREASE PRICES SIGNIFICANTLY TO INTERNET CUST
ResMed may well have have sent an email to internet providers informing them that can can no longer advertise ResMed products below MAP (Minimum Advertised Price). It may be a moot point, however, it is different from telling intenet provider at what price they must finally sell their product to the end-user.Late this afternoon Resmed sent out an e-mail to all Resmed Preferred Internet Providers informing them that effective April 1, 2008 a significant increase in the minimum internet retail price would go into effect. Yes, the poster who started this thread is unable to post his identity. Have you ever had a business to lose? This is likely from a real Resmed Preferred Internet Provider. Who else would have known or made up what he said? He is concerned about the news and is passing it on. The Resmed contact and email are authentic. The poster could lose their dealership if Resmed knew who they were. This is a multi billion dollar industry, Open your eyes. You will see big price increase, just like last time. Check the thread of the last price fixing scheme. The info came form "guests" The "guest" is trying to let cpaptalk viewers know what is going on. He clearly is real and on the side of cpap users. Why the remarks?
Thank you guest poster for taking the risk to inform cpaptalk cpap users. Most readers here can separate good "Guest"s from bad "Guest"s.
A member said the "Guest" is having "fun". He has delivered an informative and true report from the front lines for your benefit. His ability to provide Resmed, Respironics, and Fisher & Paykel products at prices buyers will accept is being challenged and you say he is having "fun"? He is having a very tough day.
Concerning the other "Guest"
why dont you people get a life and realize that there are business issues at hand of which you have no clue. Ben Cheah is just doing his job. He doesn't have to hear from a bunch of crybabies who'd like to get their equipment for free.
This is the type of guest that presents nothing new, no useful opinion, just disparaging remarks. Actually it is useful because it displays the mind set of those in the industry that want "patients" to be quiet and do what they are told, even if that is to pay too much. Regular readers of Cpaptalk see posts of this quality all the time on threads where price controls are mentioned.
"Ben Cheah is just doing his job." How true. He is paid to do it. That makes it perfectly fine for him to "sucker punch" the Preferred Internet Providers with a price increase that makes it all but impossible for them to sell Ben's employer's equipment. Ben is just doing what his masters tell him. If cpap users get hurt, so what? If he has lied to the Preferred Internet Providers, it is all part of the job. Lying is perfectly fine if you are paid to do it, is it not?.
Come on "Guest". You are an industry insider. Surely you can do better. Set an example so that the board will be in awe of your knowledge. Educate "Patients". Give some meat, some facts, some reasoning. Why don't you enlighten the board on the business issues at hand instead of pouring out insult? Present your flawless logic and overflowing compassion for those who must use CPAP nightly.
