I QUIT
Speaking of the I Quit stage.... Been there. Done that. Flamed the board. Search on "Babette" from around April-May 2007.
Right now I'm in the I LOVE MY CPAP stage. Why? Because for the first time in my life I can breathe at night AND during the day. Except for the recent cold/lung infection, I'm breathing better than I have in years, and feel calmer, and more energized.
I'm not the Energizer bunny yet, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now. Before, there wasn't even a tunnel it was so dark.
Best of luck,
Babette

I love my little "sleeping box!"

xPAP is for all shape and sizes.. I definitely agree.
xPAP does not "guarantee" weight loss, but it does help some who never had the energy to even start.
xPAP helped me get through the 3:00 p.m. groggy and fall-asleep-at-my-desk syndrome and almost falling asleep at the wheel waiting-in-line-to-get-the-kids syndrome.
xPAP has improved my heart rate, blood pressure and panic attacks.
xPAP had definitely improved my quality of life. It's a pain in the *ss sometimes... but it is probably the only reason why I am here now...alive.

I think we all can sympathize with you. I'm nearing the 4 month mark and like you didn't like it all when I first started. You have to tell yourself every night that you WILL put the mask on and that you WILL leave it on all night.
When I started the first week, every night I would wake up at 2-3 AM and take it off. I forced myself to put it back on. After 2 weeks battling myself, I finally made it through the night. I am staying 100% compliant in the time since I started.
You should feel no shame for SA. The family aspect could only be hard if they don't care about you. Your wife should know, but I suspect if you asked her about what she really feels about it, she would be more than accepting. If she is confused, print off some basic information for her to read.
You are sleeping right, however, your body is reacting to an obstruction to breathing. I look at it as trying to hold your breath under water. Your body is going to try to keep you alive no matter what you are doing, sleep included. This is nothing to be embarrassed about.
The problem might lie in the equipment you are using. Could you please post what equipment you have. Also please tell us more about your specific discomfort. Tell us more about yourself.

positive attitude
This is a much better posting then your first.
Congrats on your positive attitude.
I think most of those who drop out simply do not take the time and have the attitude and fail.
Much of this is likely due to an improper mask.
Another is probanly that they simply do not use long enough to adapt to that stranger on our face.
You CAN do it with the proper attitude and self motivation!!
Nw do it. Also fill in your profile by registering.

Guest, I'm glad you came back. The folks on this board are great people, and they really do want to help you. But you have to let us know specifically what it is that you are having problems with. If you look through some of the other posts on this board, you will see that if you ask for help to get going on this, people will go out of their way to help you adjust. We were all there once.
This is a support board, and if you come on here announcing that you are quitting with nothing else and without trying some suggestions from these great people, you have entirely the wrong attitude and that frustrates us. Too many doctors and DME's hand you a machine and mask and send you on your way, again, no help to many people who have a hard time. I'm glad that you came back and checked in.
I will tell you that having the right mask is the key to getting the treatment that you need to live. You have been prescribed a cpap because you stop breathing at night because of an obstruction, it can affect people of all shapes and sizes. Too many people are just given the cheapest mask available and sent on their way, I think that is what frustrates people the most. You will phsically feel much better if you can get through this and stick with it, you are damaging your body when you stop breathing in your sleep. So think of it as a life saving therapy, because that is what it is.
Try reading "Our collective Wisdom" by clicking on the yellow lightbulb above. You CAN do this thing. Ask a lot of questions instead of coming on saying "I quit". This board has helped a lot of people get started and through this, I would say that this board has helped many more people than the doctors and DME's to be able to adjust and use their xpaps, but you have to be willing to try. Since you came back and posted a response, I think you are willing, I'm glad to hear that. But you have to ask questions and tell us what it is that you are having problems with.
Good Luck,
SDL
