Better result with Mouth Taping--why?

Post by klaimguy » Mon Jan 07, 2008 2:24 pm

I have an APAP--M Series and have been using an Fisher Paykel 431 FF Mask with a basement 8cm pressure and an average of 9.8 to 10.2. My AHI has bounced between 1.8 and 2.5. Once in a while, I'll have no apneas. My apea count without the machine is 84. So I've felt fortunate.

My Fisher Paykel reed valve bit the dust the other night. I had no choice but to use a nasal mask--respironics and since my chin strap is not desirable, I chose to mouth tape for the past two nights to get me to Monday to get parts. We'll I looked at my numbers today--1 Apnea on Saturday night and none last night. My snores and leaks were non-existent and my pressure was 9.2. My AHI with hypopneas was .3.

Why? Does the M series lose something with this type of air transmission? Was my old mask leaking that much? I feel great today--plenty of energy, great mental clarity, etc. But, I wondered if anyone knew why the difference and are there any pitfalls?

You have stumbled into the virtues of leak-free treatment
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Well, full face masks just ARE more prone to leaks w/movement during the night. On the other hand, one night's data does not the entire story tell. Either mask, your data looks darn good.
