My pressure is 13, would bi-pap be better

Post by jomac30 » Wed Jan 02, 2008 4:17 pm

I'm still trying to adjust to wearing a mask every night after almost a year. Sometimes I stay up as long as possible because I don't want to deal with the mask. I'm currently using Comfortlite 2 with the simple seal.
With a pressure of 13 and I don't use the ramp anymore, would I be better off with a bi-pap or auto-pap. My current machine is Repironics M with C-flex.
Any suggestions on machines and masks? Thanks

I guess cpap is like all things....the more you do it the easier it is to do and the better you get at it. I used to routinely have a leak rate that was 6 times what it is now and I am using the same mask I was using then. Thirteen pressure isn't anything out of the ordinary....maybe high normal. My 95% pressure hangs around the 13-14 range.

Why do you think you would do better on an auto or biPAP? Since you don't use the ramp I assume you are comfortable breathing out against that pressure.

Have you tried any other masks?

I tried the comfortlite and comfortgel nasal masks and I tried the Optilife but nasal pillows were uncomfortable because the air going directly in my nostrils caused a burning sensation right away. I'd like to try the nasal prong type but I'm wondering if they would cause the same burning feeling.
The simple seal seems most appealing, but I feel air coming out of it quite a bit. The exhaust port seems to blow out alot stronger air than on the nasal masks. Some nights the headgear on anything seems to irritate the back of my head. I'd like to find a simple seal with very little straps around my head.

I haven't heard you say anything that leads me to believe that you need a different machine.

Your problem seems to exsist with a mask.

I have tried many, and found you just have keep trying them until you find the right one.

Kind of like dating until you find the right person.

My best mask is the Quattro after have the NA II as a favorite for a long, long time.
