New Comfort Fusion Nasal Mask

Post by jrfoster » Wed Dec 26, 2007 5:09 pm

OK, so I might be a sucker, but I just purchased on CPAP.Com the new Comfort Fusion mask. I use the Comfort Gel, but wanted to see how the "new" mask compares. With the Comfort Gel the forehead pad does not even touch my forehead most of the night as I wear the straps that loose. (Just to stop the leaks and then back off.) It is hard to tell if Respironics has made any other changes to the mask other than the forehead piece. I guess I will know in a couple of days. I will keep you posted.

Be interested to hear if anyone else is trying the Comfort Fusion.

Jeff

Jeff.....

A "Fusion" will be delivered to my office tomorrow.....and my honey will be experimenting with it....and a "Gel".....for the next few days.

She's been using a CL-2 with an interface that covers her entire nose.......but, she's experiencing more leaks than she should have.....so, we're going to try something else (the "Fusion" and the "Gel").

I'll report on what we learn.

Gerald

The Comfort Fusion mask came today from CPAP.Com. After trying it on and attempting to get a good seal I have found that there is much leakage into the eyes from around the nose area. I am playing around with it so I can wear it to bed tonight and give it a test drive. There has to be a way to adjust it so it does not leak, without having the straps tight. I just need to find the right way.

It is a different design than the comfort gel, in that there is no removable silicone cover, the mask is one piece. Yes the forehead pad is softer than the Comfort Gel. If I can figure out the forehead piece and the right angle of the adjuster it should be no problem. I guess we will see tomorrow!

Keep us posted!!

I am always interested in what real people have to say about the different masks.

I am using the Nasal Aire and a Vista for a back up. I wouldn't have tried the Nasal Aire if it hadn't been for Babette.

Ok, so here it is! I tried the new Comfort Fusion mask last night, First let me say that is not anything like the Comfort Gel, in that there is NO gel. The face piece (mask) is much like the new Fisher Paykel nasal mask, somewhat flimsy.

I tried it for the first couple of hours and was fighting with leaks around the bridge of my nose and some under my nose. When I finally thought I had the thing quiet, I rolled over to sleep on my side and guess what....? Yep, more leaks into my eyes.

Finally, since I covet sleep, I took off the mask and went back to my Comfort Gel and then got a good nights sleep.

I am going to try removing the forehead piece and putting it on my Comfort Gel since it looks identical. That way I will have a more comfortable head piece with the Comfort Gel.

Remember, this is only ONE attempt with the new mask, so I will try again and keep giving it the benefit of the doubt. Who knows it might work?

That is the latest update on the new Comfort Fusion.

Jeff

If I understood the write-ups, the Comfort Fusion has more than the 3 adjustments for the angle of the forehead-to-mask part. Not sure what else is different.

The Fusion is Respironics attempt to compete with Fisher Paykels 407. It's an economy mask, one recommended for mass clinics due to it's "one size fit's most" claim.

Don't let the fancy name fool ya, it's a cheaply made mask, with that being it's biggest selling point to us, the DMEs.

And that's straight from a Respironic's rep's mouth.

I have found that to be true! I still can't get the stupid thing to stop leaking around the nose. I have the FP 407 also and that at least fits better and does not leak as much, although the headgear is hard to get adusted for me. I have gone back to the Comfort Gel. It is comfortable and does not leak.

I have problems with adjusting the headgear, too on the F&P 407!!! I feel like I am putting some ski cap thing around my head... it just doesn't conform to my head at all! I think I'm going to play around and switch my head-gear!

Please keep my updated on the new mask... I was interested in trying it.

I actually was one of the "guinea pigs" for Respironics when they were testing the Comfort Fusion.
I did not like it at first, because it wasn't cushy at all. No gel, no cushion.
But I have to tell you, I had ZERO leaks with this mask.
I did have to play around with the headpeice and swivel it out away from the bridge of my nose, but after I got it right, I had the lowest number of events I've ever had.
I was actually really sorry to have to send it back.
I would recommend adjusting it a number of different ways to achieve your comfort, because it's light and simple and efficient (at least for me).
I ordered a Comfort Gel when I had to send it back, and I didn't like it at all compared to the Comfort Fusion.
One thing, I did change out the headgear late in the trial. I used my HC 407 headgear, because it was stretchier.
Just one lady's opinion, but I really like this mask.
