new mask suggestions needed

Post by jomac30 » Tue Dec 25, 2007 5:26 pm

I,ve been on cpap for almost a year now and don't feel any better sleep. The only type of mask I feel comfortable with is the comfortlite 2 using the simple seal. Sometimes I wonder if this seal leaks too much because I feel air around it. I've tried nasal masks but the headgear across my cheeks is very irritating to me. I was wondering if there is any other mask that is similar to the comfortlite 2 and uses a simple seal, but seals in the air a little better. I need help getting a solid night's sleep. This is so frustrating.

Mask choice is such an individual thing...
I hated the nasal thingies too. I can't stand anything up my nose.
I started on and stuck with the F&P 407 after trying some others.

Hi Jomac,

I wonder if you would be OK with the Activa nasal mask as the fit of the headgear is so loose, the straps across the cheeks may not be such a bother.

Also, have you tried the pad-a-cheek padding which makes the mask straps more comfortable? Try a search on this site for these.

Good luck,

I had a huge problem with the nasal prongs, they leaked terribly and I had a hard time breathing over the pressure.
I loved the FP HC 407 for over a year when my pressure was 10cm. It's comfy as it can be and it has a "slider" feature on the mask that is fabulous for side sleeping. (look at it on Cpap.com and you'll see what I'm talking about.)
I changed to the Activa about 8 months ago , becuase my pressure changed to 12-13cm and the comfy little FP HC 407 began to leak. The Activa gets an amazing seal. It's very bulky and takes some getting used to , but overall is a great mask. The best thing is, I no longer had marks in the morning, because you can make the straps ridiculously loose and still get a seal.
I talked to the Resmed folks the other day and begged them to make a "baby" Activa with the same seal and less bulk. They said they were looking into making a smaller one. I have just ordered Ultra Mirage II nasal mask and I'm hoping it will work sort of like the Activa with less bulk.
Good luck on your quest.

Here's another THUMBS UP for the Activa. I actually stared out with the Activa and tried several other mask.... only to return to the Activa. The Activa is the only mask that I have found that you can wear loosely and it still seals well. I tell people that my best description is it is kind of like putting your nose into a balloon.

My only complaint would be that the exhaust port is kind of noisy.
