Hi guys,
I'm a newbie. I have a Remstar Auto M-Series machine. I am able to access the setup stuff on the machine (thanks to other posts on this site), but am unsure what some of the information means. I thought it might help if I had the clinician's manual. I paid a fortune for this damned machine, and they didn't give me all the info - do they reckon I'm some sort of half-witted idiot who's going to top himself with his APAP machine?
Anyway, my specific problem has been that my machine was set for a range of 8-15. I've lowered the upper level to 11 (which was the level set by my clinician for a trial of a CPAP machine), to try and stop my mask 'blowing out' and waking me up - after all, the idea is for me to get better sleep, not to have to keep rolling over and hitting the ramp button. However, I'm unsure if I'm causing myself problems or not, or whether I should be spending additional fortunes trying out a range of masks which might or might not work - I tried several from my clinician in the trial period, and none of them were much good for me, although the latest is the best of a bad bunch!
Regards (and thanks for what is a VERY informative site),

Hi Grizzly,
Please PM me your email address. And in the PM, please tell me if you got the M Auto with or without A-flex. If it has A-flex, it will say that in the name on top of the machine.

Hi Grizzlybear, welcome to the forum. I am essentially a newbie also. Been on cpap for about 3 months. But in that 3 months, I have learned everything I know from these wonderful people on this site. In beginning, I knew NOTHING about masks. And in the first 5 weeks, I tried literally all the masks they had, nothing worked for me. Because I didn't know how to adjust or tweak them to get them to work for me.
A friend gave me an Activa. Hated it. Leaked like a sieve. But after 3 months and ump-teen masks, that is my primary mask. LOVE IT. It took me 3 months to get it adjusted right.
Absolutely no leaks, and I only have to put it on one time, and it works great with no leaks.
The trick is, do not adjust the straps to tight on any mask. They will leak worse. Give each one you try time to work by adjusting in VERY SMALL amount each time till you get it right. And always be lying in your sleep position each time you adjust it with full pressure on.
By reading this forum, you will gather unlimited and priceless advice and information.
And by quoting someone else,(cant remember who), Patience and perseverance is the most important thing to remember.
Bottom line- Don't give up and don't quit!
Fill in your Profile with your equipment and your pressure. It will be easier for us to see what you have and what you are using.

Thanks, Joyce.
I'm trying to update my profile - I'll get there sooner or later.
It is great to have a forum for discussion among similarly afflicted people - there is a degree of caringness (if I can coin a word) and understanding which appears to be singularly lacking among the so-called 'caring professionals'.
